Diff Noise

Post by NUGGS »

Got a lovely noise coming from the rear diff. :x Whines under acceleration at around 80kms+ and then eases when I back off the gas.

There is a little bit of oil seeping from around where the rear drive shaft bolts up to rear diff.

Is there a bearing and seal behind there, if so what is involved to replace??

I had a similar thing. I changed the oil and the noise went away.

That whine that your hearing are bearing noises. I doubt changing oils gonna do anything. You may need to replace you seal, it's easy enough. But with me I changed the seal over and over again while it continued to leak, then I found out my axle was slightly bent.

but he's talking about the pinion :) I doubt a bent axle or blown axle seal will make his pinion leak

maybe try changing the oil first, its not that expensive. but if the pinion is leaking, or any seal for that matter, you usually end up changing the seal in the end and the diff oil.

so maybe sooner than later.

and ummm, i'm not too sure about changine a pinion seal, havent had the need to do one before.
