2.5 inch exhaust system and injector pump aneroid adjusted to suit = 11psi.
No other mods or bleed valves.

Hmm.. The boost guage on my 98 2.8TD under normal full load indicates 9PSI consistantly with a stock standard no fuss 4JB1T, standard exhaust etc etc etc.Tiny wrote:Not sure the method, but a mate boosted mine to 9-10psi, the engine died at 170k, idler gear sheared of the crank, presumably nothing to do with the additional boost, but ya never know
The workshop manual indicates that the wastegate should begin cutting in at 665 mmHg which corresponds to 12.8 PSI. Not being the full two bob on this stuff, my understanding is that the wastegate dumps the excess pressure.... so even given a bit of loss here and there.. I would think that 9-10 PSI should be the norm.
You have me concerned as my beast is currently sitting on 169,128Km ... lets hope it was not the boost that caused your prob!

mine ran at 10.5psi at factory settings...... i had it dyno tuned at this setting to suit an intercooler. At the moment i have a simple spring tensioner on the waste gate.. which gives me 12 - 12.5psi of boost... i'm not going to go any higher until i get a pyrometer on it to keep an eye on EGT..... i have been informed that any more than about 14psi on an oil burner and you are going to destroy the bottom end....... mine runs fine on 12psi.... i won the mud drags at Rover Park in the 4cylinder class
