Another cheapy compressor...

Just bought this off eBay:



Will do some speed tests to see how quick it blows up a 33", compared to my old compressor and a Blue Tongue.

Looked OK, will have to see....

How big is it? Going by the accessories lying around it in the pic it appears tiny compared to something like a Maxair?

it is a croc country 72 l/m . same specs as max air .
$160-00 delived in qld . retail price $230-00.

i use one to run my air opperated locker .
i am in the process of making wiring looms and air tanks to use this compressor with an air locker .

Well 28cm is about the length of a A4 piece of paper. So its bigger than the small compressors but probably not a big as the MaxAir. Anyone know how long the maxair is? (cant find dimensions online)
Anyway when I recieve it I will strip it down & take some photos.

I have that same one which I got off ebay which works on, nothing flash, but good as a second unit. IF it is the same as mine, it wouldnt be flash with air tank I dont think.

Looks very similar to the flow max that you can get at bigw. Its the same figures aswell. That pump tiik 5 1/2 mins to pump one of my 35s. Would it be any quicker if i wired two into a tank at the same time or would that just make the load on each compressor a little easier?

Not quite. I have the BigW FowMax ($89.95 :-) It has the air intake mounted low near the crank and uses a fairly inefficient piston valve thingy. The top air intake must use a reed valve or something in the head. You could probably convert from one to the other since the castings are the same.

i think the big W ones are like the cheep cyclone one from repco. they have 2 ried valves in the top of the pistion and a 1 way valve in the head. pretty much on the intake stroke the air comes though the bottom of the piston past the read valves, this means it sucks from down around the crank area..

the big thing i have found with cheaper ones is they have a metal piston and metal valves but only a teflon sorta ring to seal the piston in the bore. this is what has failed on my old mans cyclone..

also if someone could strip down a big W one and see if they have all metal insides??

anyone know if replacement pistons can be bought for these? as the teflon seal is not replaceable

Yes, it is described as a "2-valve" compressor. Thats what got me interested, Theoretically it could always be pumping air, while one piston is sucking the other is blowing. Dont know until I get it though...

I am going to mount it on the car and I have a 20L air tank to fit. I still need hoses and a air-solenoid.

It's bigger than it looks then. My Maxair is roughly 19cm high and 31 cm long.

There's an old thread on here where a Big W fake was tested and pulled apart; as well as a Maxair. Basically there is a big difference inside with the quality of construction and parts.

And they have crappy quality thin Coca Cola advertising paper as gaskets......... guaranteed! A chinese cheapy I had did. I only found out when it blew up cos I pulled it apart out of curiosity.

That said though, has anyone had a Projecta twin head Typhoon? Made in China and owned by Brown & Watson (Narve etc) but this compressor did surprisely very well in the 4wdAction endurance test even on 35's.
