it stoped working yesterday, got in some deep water, flooded inside and was up over 2" above the bonnet on the GQ, i noticed it wasn't working when I hit the tarmac again on the way home. would it be the sender f****ed, wire shorted or something else?

Just a thought, check the wiring to the sender, if you have got any cracks or penetrations in the wiring, the water has possibly either blown the wiring or the resistor on the sender. It might be worth taking a day to drop the tank out and visually check the sender.

you pull the sender out, you dont have to drop the tank, remove via inspection panel in floor,

Yeah, pull it out via inspection plate (a feature that would be *very* handy on the MQ!), trace the wires back, and then stick an ohmmeter across the wires. Move the sender back and forth and see if you get a resistance change. If not, move your measurement point closer to the sender (just cut the insulation off and tape it back up well later) until you find the fault. If you get all the way to the sender, you know where the problem is ;)

Can also do the opposite - alternatively short and open the wire from the gauge and look for needle movement.
