I have the Old Man Emu suspension on my Vit and am looking to run 235/75R15's on some 15x7 rims. What I want to know is if anybody has run these and will I have any clearance problems. I am going to get it engineered so I can't have any rubbing. What offset will I need, will F100 offset (15x7, -5 ET) work or does it have to be Vitara. Would a bodylift help? Any info appreciated.

i have the OME suspension too

i run that size tyre on standard rims

front rubs slightly at full compression

if they dont rub try a 30x9.5

There's a fellow in the vic zook club that has just put a 2" body lift under his swb vitara... i know that he has also fitted some "bigger" tyres - not sure what though... i'll try to find out.

235's are just a bit smaller than a 30" and with the 2" sus lift all should be good. :lol:

OME lift should go pretty close to not rubbing..... if you need more offset go Sierra wheels.

Antt had my 30"s on his Vitara LWB with no rubbing except on the rear wheel arch outer lip - so I'd think that 235"s wouldn't be an issue on the standard offset.

The most likely spot to rub on a near stock vitara would be on the inside of the rear wheel arch.

Too much offset increases the likelihood of rubbing with steering lock with the IFS at the front.

yep, got 30x9.5's on mine. i have a bodylift now, but when i didn't, the back right side tyre would catch the guard on the front of the rear wheel arch. chopped my new muddies up good and proper :x

so just bash the guard up a bit to be on the safe side

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but better than starting a new thread.

I've been told by most its fine putting on 235's on a Vitara without any mods, ( full compression their is minor rubbing, which I probably won't achieve )

But what about a 235/75/15 with a very aggressive tread? ( i.e. Cooper STT's )

I would die if I saw the rear guards chopping up new muddies, so if anyone with experience could tell me, is it safe to put an aggressive tread straight on?

With stock rim offset they'll rub on the inside rather than chop up on the outside. After that it's trial and error, but if you have say 40mm of lift (2" OME ain't 2") and the tyres is now 28.9" (235/75) versus 26.3" (205/75) then that's a 2.6" bigger tyre.

1/2 of that is on the upside and half is the downside... so 1.3" taller.

1.3" = 33mm give or take.

The tread is also 30mm wider - 1/2 each side so 15mm wider outward.

Anyone got a calculator to work it out?

The square root of (15x15)+(33x33) is 36mm so the tyres will be 36mm closer to the outer edge of the guard. 40mm you're ok no problems.

Nice, thanks beast! I still don't get how you worked that out, but I guess you're just calculating the extra width from each side.

So I have 40mm of room, and the space used is 36mm tread, I have 4mm of free space?

Sounds kinda close :lol:

Maybe I should consider 1" coil spacers, and maybe a cheapo 1" bodylift.

Anyone fitting these for cheap? I don't have any tools or the space to do it as I had to move from the farm to an inner city unit :cry:

Yeah working out the diagonal distance... the old pythagorean theorem. Some use for high school maths after all.

Nope it's 4mm more gap than stock. Your gap between your stock suspension and the tyres hopefully is a little more than 0mm.....

hey tyson,

if you decide to get the 235s, see if you can do a deal with them on some 15x7" sunnies or something instead on mounting them on your stocko's.

and the lift ratio for vits is:

FRONT: 1":1.5" (spacer/coil lift:actual lift gained)
REAR: 1":1" (spacers/coil lift proportional to lift gained)

keep us updated. we need more killer Vits.

Sorta got hooked because, everyday I drive to work I go down Beach road in port melbourne, and I always see this black vit there on chunky 235's, and some pretty mean alloys.

Is that anyone heres' car ?

Sorry for the grave dig...but how does well does a 235 wide tyre fit under the guards with 15x7" rims? Do you need flares? Any pics of this rim and tyre profile on the car?

Yes you will 'cause mine is just past (1-2mm) the guard on stock rims for my vit
89 Vitara, 1.6lt carby, 235 Maxxis all terrains, custom 3inch rear tube bumper, no lift :)
