60 Series Cruiser Handbrake Conversion
I don't know much about 60 Series stuff so some help would be good...
My mate has a 60 series Sahara and it has the drum brake rear which we want to upgrade to disk - the disk set up requires the handbrake to be the drum off the transfer style agreement but he currently has the hand brake off the rear drums on the axle - we have the backing plates and caliper holders etc can we use and bolt on a drum set up on the rear of the transfer off an earlier model..... oh yeah and its an automatic tranny too so I guess that stuffs things up a bit eh? Apparently it was to use 60 series fron t disks and calipers but would there be a rear caliper set up that would bolt on in worst case????
Any help would be cool.

Not that this will help you, i don't know anything about rear discs, but handbrake on the back of transfer unless well maintained and dirt free just don't work real good.
Can you find rear discs of a 4wd that has the handbrake on them?
Unless you never use your handbrake, i'd be keeping the rear drum - but then again, i've never had rear disc to compare to.

Heres the guff, you fit the handbrake from a FJ HJ 47 from about 1979-1983 (split transfer)you need the rear output shaft, rear bearing housing, backing plate with shoes and the drum. This all will go straight into/onto your transfer. As for the rear disc's ive been making disc conversions for the rear end of cruisers for 15 years and i have lazer cut mounting brackets and backings plates bolts instruction ETC and its a straight bolt on job, it uses Hilux solid disc's and calipers and with some wheels with ample clearance you can use Cruiser vented disc's and calipers. The mounting kit i sell for $250 so PM if you want more info.

The rear spindles on an 80 diff housing is compleatly different to the 60 set up and it wont bolt on. I have fitted the 80 spindles to the ealier housings before but its not something i would do for my self as its not a logical conversion. I customer wanted it and paid me good $$$$$ to do it.Pauwolf wrote:why cant you use 80 series rear disk setup?
