claws - any good in aussie conditions?
Just wondering as I seem to be finding it hard to find some decent secondhand 36x12.5's TSL's.
Can get some 35" claws for cheap though but really haven't paid much attention to them recently.
cheers

ABout 200km on the road each week, for what they are they are not too bad on the road. The claws should be better in the mud than the MT/R's, but I don't really know, I avoid the mud here, it is goopy horrible shit..
The MT/R's I think grip rock better, but tear much easier. The claws are absolutely indestructible..

Definately the claws would be better suited to that mexican mud than MT/R's......

I RUN BAJA CLAWS (BIAS PLY) FOR 2 YEARS AND FOUND THEM THE TOUGHST TYRES I HAVE EVER USED BUT AT A PRICE, THEY WERE A NIGHTMARE ON ROAD. FORGET ABOUT DRIVING ON WET ROADS YOU WILL BE DOING 360S OTHER WISE GREAT OFFOAD, PLENTY OF BITE
PRO COMP XTERRIAN IS DESIGNED FOR ALL CONDITIONS AND IS A RADIAL TYRE AND IS VERY GOOD IN WET CONDITIONS AND ON ROAD
BEST ROCK TYRE I HAVE USED EVER. VERY QUIET ON ROAD AND HANDLE WELL. I HAVE RUN PRO COMP OR 12 MTHS. AND WON THE LOGAN EXTREME NIGHT RUN ON THEM
Definitely not going with radial claws.
Just a hard choice to make to move from my Simex JT2's to something else.
Either have to hang around for a long time waiting for the TSL's to appear in the trading post or somewhere, or pick the claws up now.
very tough - will keep searching around for info.
Thanks for the replies

Nice necro bogged
Anyways since this thread has been dug up...
How are people liking the claws now?
I have heard of a lot of people damaging them quiet easily.
I am leaning towards the Maxxis Creepy Crawlers as my next tyre of choice?
35" variety as 37's just look a bit silly on a road driven Jeep
Or 35" Krawlers but can't find them cheaper than $550 or so :(
Someone give us a run down on the tyres you are running at the moment and how you like them...

I run 33" claws. They absolutely love mud, rock and dirt.
Radials as well, they are pretty good on road, only really notice the difference when on highway sweepers, they like to understeer. And when slowing down or taking off they judder and sound like a Jumbo jet.
Mud is there favourite place, they are not unbeatable but they take a bit.
I run at 18psi on mud, rocks or dirt.
They don't really slip unless I literally have two diagonal wheels off the ground, diff locks would fix that.
That said there may be better tyres out there but I dont think claws will dissapoint in Victoria.
Cheers

re: tyres
I've run radial claws and MTR's and find the MTR a better tyre for grip in most situations. I think the bias ply claw is a different story though as most guys I know that have run bias ply's were happy with them.
I won't ever buy radial claws again as there are better tyres on the market.

What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

i could show you a photo like that of every tyre on the market. IMO the only down side of the claws is due to the tread design they are no good on the off camber slipery stuff. aside from that good in mud and rocks, they are noisy on road as you would expect.waxhead.. wrote:I reckon radial claws are pretty ordinary, MTR's anyday in my opinion.
dont tell the missus
I am on to my 3rd set of radials. I have had 35's and now run 36 x 15.5 r15. They are fantastic on road and look staunch! I haven't used them much for offroad work and probably won't apart from beach / social plays. I also run bias 37's as so far they are great!
Ring Ryano @ Forby's for the best information, (although 37 bias are no longer available new)
Cheers Justin

I ran 37" Claws on my GU Patrol for a year and was throughtly impressed had MTR and BFG muddies hated them!!! punctured them all, (maybe its the way i drive )
But seriously they are tops and i bought a set for my GQ Patrol as well
Fairly priced and work excellent off road and have lots of sexyness about them
They do take time to wear in though and yes they dont bag as nicely as MTR or BFG
Good luck in your choice
Cheers Matty
