Power Steering conversion

Power Steering conversion
I am going to change my power steering pump at some stage while the engines out due to it being mega crap!!
I was considering putting something other then land rover in it like one out of a Jap truck or something.
a) Am I wasting my time?
b) Would there be any real benefit from it?
I have replaced everything in my steering setup over the last 18 months and my steering is still very heavy so I have come to the conclusion that it has to be the pump. When the power steering oil is cold the steering is fantastic!! Once everything gets hots it all turns to crap!! Feels like I have no power steering at after a hard day in the bush!!

i dont know about the rovers - what sort of cooler if any do they run on the power steering

A couple of blokes in the club gave me this idea and will be following it through when my PS pump dies.
Go to the wreckers and pick up a cheap PS pump of eiter a Commodore or Falcon, well anything that's suitable replacement and get a few new fittings, change the bracket and off you go, much cheaper than a Rover PS pump (abot $630 plus GST my old man paid for his).
