The above link shows American stats: we didn't get the 24v motor, and our models got 265/70-15 tyres (265/75-15 is effectively 31x10.5-15.)

Yeah it's definitely 33.5mm (outer diameter at the spline) and 31 spline.
The 35.5mm came from someone saying the bigger axles are about 5mm thicker than the 3.0 V6 axles (their actually 3mm thicker).
I actually have one to give to ARB and have measured it.

Would I be correct in assuming that I can put any 5 Speed Manual Transmission from '83 to '87 in my '85 2.6L 4G54 ???

(Gear chunks fell out when I removed the sump plate)

Reason I'm querying, is someone told me I can only use trans. out of '85 2.6 Petrol, and it has to have the same type of sump (mine is flat, apparently there are also curved ones), and I can't use trans. out of diesel.

Probly go bye one tommorrow anyway, and get the wrong one. Hope Not!!!

Oh, and where on the transmission would I find the model no. (eg, KM145, I assume thats the model I'm looking for)

NFI about the number - try running a tape measure over a few major dimensions before you hand over any cash?

Thanx. I bought the car anyway. It was NB, same as mine. Box seemed ok. But here's a good one: The engine was HOT. Came out of a stolen car some years ago. Took us about 4 hour to convince the police to let us drive from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, take the motor out and drop the motor off at the local cop shop.

Box seems ok, but once out seemed to have a slight rattle when turning the input shaft.

Hopefully just Bearings?

its a pdf on the 6g72 motor, not paj specific, but looks to be some good info in it. Has everything from cross sections of the motor and special tools needed through to demensions of specific components of the engine.

hey, Im new to this forum as I`m going to buy pajero swb 91 tomorrow and if u could guys explain if there`s any difference between nj and nh 3.0 v6. ??
is there any diffrence in suspension. i read the whole two pages and i know 3.0 v6 doesnt have a leaf springs but are coils any diffrent than in NH

Hi, i'm new to the forum, i bought a 1986 2.3TD Pajero, 3 Door and i'm looking for technical specs about the 2.3TD engine and or the entire car. Althrough the car is very good looking, with Sparco Backets in the front, Ohlins shocks, etc.. the engine on the other hand with 325000Km seems tired, non responsive and slow. It dosen't hold a 4th gear in a short low slope and i also don't notice the turbo kick in at any gear. I know it only has aprox 84HP and 190Nm of torque but it seems Odd.
Do you people think this usual for this car?

I'm considering taking it to Mitsubishi or a good mech to open the engine cleanup, switch some nuts and bolts and tighten the engine because possibly the engine looses compression or something. ´
The other possibility is a engine switch to the 2.5TD from late 1986 through 1990, do u think it fit's and it's an easy switch?

Wich option do u guys think could be the most expensive?

Hi guys, I am from Indonesia. I'm lucky enough to have a J-Top pajero coz it is not common here. Anyway, mine is a 2.5 TDI manual transmission, right handed steering wheel. I assume it must had been imported from australia. I am planning to totally rebuild mine but can't find a single supplier here for j-top spareparts. I will really appreciate your kindness to inform me one in aussy preferrably the ones specializing in pajeros.

I need to get:
air filter, ball joint (tie rod?), emblems, steering wheels (and other interior parts, soft tops, mud guard etc

Hi there guys, im a newbie in here and wondering if its possible to hit you guys up for some model spec's for the challengers (shouldnt be anywhere as many variants as in the pajs im guessing)

The reason i ask is im toying with the idea of doing a heart transplant...
4M41 3.2L DiD into the 01 challenger (6G72 DOHC auto)

As far as im aware, the auto challenger and the gen 2 paj share the same tranny and diff (right? diff ratio of 4.636) and the same transfer case ratio of 1.9 to 1....

How much would be in common with the later gen 3 paj? I can see that the diff's should be compatable if i change the centre from the 3.9 to 1 to the 4.636 to 1, but that would throw out all the final gearing to buggery. Otherwise would the 36mm splined axles still fit in the standard challenger diff housing or are they longer/shorter etc?


Im thinking engine and transmission needed, but would the 5speed auto be compatable with the diesel engine instead of the standard manual? (only because the handbrake cant drive a manual, might be easier for her to finally learn)

Any ideas on how much would be different between the challenger trany/transfer case and the superselect paj type????

Lots of questions i know, but im sure im in the right place to get lots of helpful ideas and information guy,

Have been looking into it all on the net and read thru the stuff from 4ePajero at pajero club dot co dot az

Really really interested in doing it but it will be a daily drive and need to be fully road legal, so im thinking the biggest problem will be if the conversion would require a body lift or not. I guess worse case would be a mod to the firewall and tranny tunnel.

Have also found that the challenger not sold in oz around '05 '06 was avaible with the 4M40 DiD (2.8lt turbo) so if this is a factory option, is the dimensions on the 4M41 that much different????

Im aware that the 3.2 lt runs with the higher flow intercooler mounted below the radiator.

Would it be something to do that would be possible without being stupidly involved to get it done right?

It would mean i can take my current fuel capacity/range from about 500kms out to around 750kms, change to a 125lt long range tank and thats a range of around 1100kms plus.

Im really liking the idea of this :P

Engine/Semi-auto tranny/Superselect transfer/full wiring loom with ecu's etc/upgrade front and rear brakes/ obviously modified fuel lines and exhaust, anything else?

Im unsure how the two systems would integrate between the turbo diesel and the instrument cluster....

Hi Friends,

Trying to identify my Pajero thru the VIN number has proved to be kind of impossible, since there
are many digits in my VIN which do not add up with the ones shown in your VIN explantion post.

Well, here's my VIN, maybe someone in the Forum could give me an idea where to look,
or how to find out what differential size ( 7.25" or 8" ) i have....

The was imported to Taiwan thru Mitsubishi Dealership, manufactured in Japan.

VIN: JMBORV430WJ00329
1997 Pajero LWB V6 3000 24V with Auto Transmission

On another type plate under the bonnet is stamped:
