dobinson shocks?
Have any of you guys had experience with dobinson shocks?? Are they made by them or rebadged? I was under the impression that there weren't too many shock makers around and 80% of brands are rebadged with different setups etc..
I searched but found little joy on them....

Hi
Dobinsons shocks are made for Dobinsons in a Country in Northern Africa that Dobinsons would like to keep secret for some silly reason. I don't know of any shocks sold in Australia made by the same manufacturer. (so not rebadged). They are really a very decent shock, 2nd to none except maybe Bilstein and Koni.
For a Patrol, Cruiser, Rangie etc Dobinsins have the bigger bore 36mm shocks but for most other vehicles they have a smaller bore shock. For other vehicles I recommend you go for EFS shocks because EFS keep to a bigger 35mm bore as much as the vehicle allows them. (EFS are rebadged Lovells shocks but no harm in that)
So for the bigger 4wd's head for Dobinsons (better valved for the bigger 4wd's) and for smaller one's head for EFS. I can sell you both types delivered to your door for $95 each.
Or you can go for the Procomp shocks for $125 each delivered. I wouldn't say Procomp are a better shock but you can get longer lengths in Procomp and a longer warranty (limited lifetime Warranty).( better than Rancho and tough dog )
EFS has a 3 year manufactures warranty and Dobinsons have a 12 month manufactures warranty for shocks but I would warranty them for 3 years as well.
I hope this is the info you are after

One issue I had with the EFS shocks on the GQ SWB was die to the larger bore size the fronts would not fit until I took to the front of the car with a die grinder. Some people might be a bit put off by that.
Not much of a worry... but there is a reason why some of the others do not offer 35mm bore for all applications. Worth considering.
Other than that been happy with them so far.
In the ranges I went looking for from EFS, GQ specification for 2" and 3" lift is the same front shocks (dunno about 4" ones). There are 3 rear sizes for the GQ rear in this range and you can use the 4" lift shock on the rear on a 2" lift if you can deal with slight rubbage on upward travel (I wanted max travel with no rear swaybar and took my 2" shocks back). They sell it as an extra long 2" but I think it's the same part - it's certainly the same lengths.
Probably the recommended one for 3" would work best on 2" if you want extra flex wihtout the rub.
Same principles apply with any set so if you buy Procomp the stock 2" lift ones are only 2" longer and thus give no more down travel.
As I'd already suggested they may not be long enough these were replaced no questions asked
Not that this is a bad thing - but different people have different needs and you need to specify what you're after and why to get the best service.....
I was interested in the procomps but the 6 week wait I was going to face at the time meant I bought EFS that afternoon instead.

I'm sponsored by dobinsons and I run them on my GU comp truck. I've smashed them for a year and I've had no trouble with them. The shocks are made in Tunisia in near Egypt and are made to dobinsons specs. I highly recomend them as they are very simple with no adjustment on them. I found that I couldn't really tune adjustable shocks anyway and the dobinsons have suited my needs nicely straight out of the box. ( can I have a new set of shocks now Mr. Dobinson )

I confirm, Dobinsons shocks are made in Tunisia. They do speak french there and probably owned by the French if the truth be told.
