thermostatic switches

G'day all.

Just wondering if some people could help me out with the different options of thermostat switches. Ie. it measure the temp and turns your thermofan on. I am aware of the copper ones which you have to feed in and around the radiator inlet hose... but surely there is a better way to do it. Could you run a switch out of a port in the manifold?

heaps of old cars had temp lights instead of temp gauges

I'm thinking that you could get a temp switch from one and use it to switch on a relay and then the termo fan

If you don't mind a bit of tinkering. Go to Jaycar and buy their thermo switch kit. You actually have to build the circuit, but it's quite interesting to do.

It's fully adjustable in 1 degree increments up to 1200 deg. It also comes with a little LCD screen which you can mount in the car to show the constant temp accurately. And you can use the thermistor coupling supplied or even wire it into the temp sendor.

The best part, it's only about $60.

Otherwise go to a wrecker and look at FWD cars. Most 80's - early 90's Daihatsus have them fitted.

Go into any auto spares place and they should have the Tridon catalogue.

that is what I did for my F Truck... there is a 85deg with a imperial thread to suit Ford thermostat housings.

If you are custom building a Radiator, the Alfa switch is the best temp, followed by the Magna one.
