That genious from Japan is at it again.
Here is a submission I have for the BJ74 workshop manual.
Starter motor removal:
1. Using Oxy, remove 30cm of chassis rail adjacent to starter motor.
2. Remove one bolt and one nut holding starter to bell housing. (To gain access to these, first remove body from chassis or simply remove fire wall).
3. Cut starter in 3 piece with oxy.
4. Buy new Toyota 4wd with functional starter motor.

I finally got the sucker out and back in again. Had to undo engine mounts, jack engine up, use about 6 socket extensions, rotate the starter about 10 times and use a pry bar. All that for a 20 minute starter re-build and a $5 contact. Models with no A/C might not be such a problem. All fun and games.
hmm I have had starters in and out of BJ70's and 73's a few times, would not have thought the 74 much different. I think they are easier than HJ60 starters, where I have to lie across the top of the air cleaner to get the top bolt in/out.turbo4t wrote:I finally got the sucker out and back in again. Yeah, the 3B's, 2H's, 2/3F's etc are a piece of cake.
