rangie viscous fan

rangie viscous fan
after a bit of advice, the viscous fan on my 86 rangie has broken off a blade and while asking around to get a new one have found out it is a common problem, so just wondering if anyone knows if you can remove the fan and run thermo fans instead or does this lead to over heating problems? or any other problems. thanks
thermos work perfect

They are $250 from a Ford dealer.
Have them (EL) on my rangie with a 4BD1 and on my other rangie (350 chev), $80 from the wrecker and work a treat.

I had a Ford Falcon steel-bladed fan in my '86 RR.
I think it was out of an XF or similar. The blades had been trimmed.
For a pix of a typical RR plastic fan blade, see a pix I took at http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/coolingsystem/fan.html
