How do you get the hole in the guard looking pretty? I would want some kind of neat circle to put over the cut hole in the guard to make it look alright I think. Anyone aware of anything suitable?
I was thinking that something like this might be good for going through the guard and concealing the cut...

But there might be something more suitable..?

This is not legal advice.
Hi Jason
I didn't see what size pipe you are using, but you are not going to need a round hole because a 3" bend will not be tight enough to go through a 3.125" hole and still mount flush to the guard.
So you are going to need an oval hole, or finish the snorkle blind and take a pipe out the back of the snorkle, notched onto the main body and at right angles to it.

For my setup, (say the elbow is exactly 3") i want to cut a hole that will give approx. 1mm clearance all around the pipe. Because the pipe isn't going straight into the guard, i will have to compensate for the pipes inside bend, thus turning the circular hole into a more sideways eggshape. Before putting the elbow in, i'm going to seal the freshly cut metal, then use a "U" shaped runner strip to cover the edge of the hole. This way, there's no sharp edges, no rubbing off of paint (to encourage rust).

has anyone done a snorkel to suit a dual fuel 253/308 is there anything that i should know about.BTW im gunna use 3'' stainless and either mandrel bends or 3'' flex truck exhaust tube
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

i used to always run my snorkel facing forward on gas and never had a problem. now with the new snorkel, its facing backwards and nothing has changed. so i dunnoJ Top wrote:Hi GT
don't face the snorkle forwards as the head wind leans out the gas, in fact even a cross wind may stall it at idle.
Flexi pipes with convoluted inners create restrictive vortex's which grow as air speed increases and starve air supply.

Gq ute new built
Webbie,
I have used the Patrol dual fuel metal air box from Impco (got it through Ozgas for $165, I'm not 100% happy with it as it doesn't seal enough for the type of off roading I do, so I'm modifying it. I run a Safari 3" snorkel on it at the moment BUT man has it restricted it as the motor is starved for air, still goes like a rocket but if I take it off and have the usual dual fuel set up without the snorkel attatched I can fry the tires and pick up is grouse in all gears.
So don't waste your time on a custom 3" go straight to 4" or do duals
I'm liking Gregs 4" puppies myself.

I'd love to see a photo. My mate is after a snork for his zook but I hate the plastic crap that's on offer from the 4x4 shops. I'm trying to talk him into a shiny one and a sweet picture might get you a sale. What sort of price would you be after?bru21 wrote:finished my bro's just have to plum it after exams. used 6mm s/steel nutserts ans 316 capscrews to attach it to the a pillar. looking pretty "fricken smurf" to quote my little bro. so early jan for who wants

It is designed to have a ram air effect and create a bit of positive pressure in your air inet.. but its not all that dramatic...
Most people turn them around either to stop the head snagging on trees and stuff in the bush or some people turn them round if its raining also, to 'catch' less water.. or supposedly.
LPG cars dont work too well with a ram air effect so they might do this as well.

I have been thinking of that for a while. What if you are driving headlong into some really really really driving rain (You would probably pull over.... ). Is that ever an issue with snorkles ? Can they eat rain.. Mythbusters.
I didn't see the question answered what is the best way to pretty up the hole you bung in your gaurd ??

sorry mate, no close ups as my digi is stuffed. The only place it is connected to the body is the thick cable tie highlighted in the pic and where it connects to the air box. I too used a rubber surround from clarke rubber to go around the sharp edges where i cut the hole in the body.

where abouts did you get the rubber bends from...price?
been looking everywhere
If not look at getting them from Vic and posting them over
TruckBits in Dandynong Vic have them about 20 - 35 each depending on size and bend type.
