Ok, went down to Maquarie 4x4 to get quote for sum sidey's on my rocky, subsequent estimate, after 30secs with the tape weasure :roll: , "yeah, about $1200"... anyway, after i stoped rolling around laughing I picked my self up from the floor, and said "I'll have to ring around and might get back to ya's" (yeah, rrrite :D ) sooooo, after searching through the contacts list, found a friend who can weld, and also found out he has spare steel lying around... looks like end price will be bottle/case of watever i get him in appreciation. :D

Here's the pics about 80% done, just gotta weld it up, paint it and attach to chassis. Woooohoooo, suck on that $1200 quote :armsup:

You can see one of the old alloy ones that took a bit of a bashing :D
PS, to the defence of the 4x4 place, theirs looked bling as, but thats not what i want em for :twisted: lol
Hopfully will finish em tomorroe and will post up final pics, along with sum dimensions and any other useful info i can think of, so if any other rocky owners wanna make their own, might atleast help a bit.

i take it ur just going to weld those straight on to the chassis???
i reakon id do the same thing exept where u weld it on the chassis id have a square plate about 20mm bigger on the ends(sorta like feet) just to have a better connection.
looks good though alot cheaper than the bling ones!!!

nah, not welded to chassis. Welded to a metal plate, which is bolted to another metal plate on other side of chassis... will post up piccys later as can't finish em till next week now :cry: . Went to engineering place and wanted $90 for 24 bolts :shock: ... they were overkill but still seemed expensive, got sum cheaper ones from auto pro but still supposed to be pretty strong, grade 8 high tensile the guy said. I have no idea what grades what so ne1 here know if that is good?? :D

With 12 bolts each side that should be sufficient.

A grade 8 M10 bolt pulls more than 5 tons until it permantly deforms, so 12 each side will do the trick :lol:

cause i was wondering if my rear bar attachment was going to be strong enough.

i used 4, 8.8 ton M8 high tensile bolts

im sure it will be right now!!! :lol:

i cant remember but isnt high tensile bolts the ones that if you use improperly will snap really easily??? or is that a different type???

I used this as a reference and then roughly calculate the cut surface of a bolt. To my knowledge using bolts improperly would only occur when you tighten them beyond the yield strength which causes them to break. I think the type of bolt you mention is stainless steel hardware. But then again, I'm no expert :lol:

it can only be used for pushin/pullin or somthin
i know u cant use it on ur trailer because it moves sides ways too much
i think sideways movement causes it to snap
its only strong in one direction, but like it matters for sliders

FINALLY, finished em off. Still needs some tweaks like one backing plate doesnt fit in behind the chassis rail, but its strong as with only 2 of the arms bolted to the chassis.

Will also put sum rubber between the door sils and the sliders soon. Sory for the HUGE piccys :D

U mean in the 1st pics or the last pic?? 1st pics are of old crappy alloy side steps(which are now gooone), the last pic the backinglate is chequerplated steel, about 7mm thick :D might look a bit like alloy in the pic cuz of greyish primer, and the camera flash

id have to agree with that i try to limit my side steps to only one person on them at a time.
