16" 80 Rims with 285's to 75 Ute

Post by Joombi »

G'day, I want to put a set of 80 series GXL 16" Rims with 285's on my 92 75 series Ute, are there any problems with the offset or any other problems before I go ahead, any help would be great, Thanks.....

Thanks Mate, I was told by a few people they would hit the calipers but if your mate already has them on & has no trouble, thats proof enough....

Rubbing tie rod end.

Post by dogbreath_48 »

I'm trying to put the GXL rims on my '87 HJ75, but they rub the rubber boot on the tie rod end pretty hard (can't spin the wheel by hand)! :bad-words:
Does anyone have any ideas how to overcome this? Also, i run a set of 34" simex (~35") tyres on sunnies without rubbing - is it likely i'll have a problem running 33" tyres on the GXL rims?

The offset on the 80 series rim is all wrong for a 75....and the steering arms will rub....better to get 16x8 sunnies 3.5 inch backspace.

I ended up opting for keeping my 15" sunnies & fitting 32x11.5 15R MTR's, not as much noticable drop in power than 33's & still looks better than the 31's
