winching

Post by rocklux »

how do you stop the cable from spooling up on one side? happened to a ox 10 ooo pound on a very steep hill climb, broke the winch and bent the bull bar.
94 twin cab hilux, 3'' spring, 2'' body, 37'' sticky treps, front & rear air lockers, rockhopper gears.

Other than rigging a snatch block so that the rope is lead to the centre of the winch, with most trucks it is not possible to do much else, because the winch is too close to the fairlead.

You need to stop winching before it builds up too much and respool, before continuing to winch.

Have a shorter cable.

IMHO most low mounts run too much cable on them, for the majority of the winching you don't use a full cable and when you need to use an extension strap.
