Extractors

Post by Hybrid »

A couple of zorst questions

1. How do I identify a good set of extractors at a wrecker?
2. To work out if their tuned or not is it as easy as measuring the length of each pipe?
3. Is there a certain type of metal that I should look for?
4. What are some good brands to look for?
5. And finally what size would be best for a 3.8L V6

Most of what your are asking goes out the window when you stick the motor in the hole and end up with bugger all room for anything, all the science is forgotton in the quest to just make it fit :(

I wouldnt worry about trying to find tunned length extractors for a Commodore V6 it wont make much difference to the performance. Most of the second hand extractors you buy will fit into a hilux and basicaly as long as when you pick them up they dont drop a heap of rust out from inside you should be right.
IMHO dont wast your money on them as the factory manifolds work fine and you could find something better to spend it on.

Thanks fellahs

I thought as much when i first got the motor but then I was stupid enough to look at sites about young guys and their "monster" VNs. A couple of these stated the standard manifolds dont flow that well and as usual I started doubting myself. I'm sure whiteys will point me in the right direction for setting it up when the engines done anyway.

If you use the factory extractors check them throughly as they are known to crack. If I remember correctly its always the same side, can't remember which side tho, and the wreckers know this and charge accordingly
