tehehe.........1st out of a total of 3 competitors for that class isn't bad considering 1 of the competitors for that class wasn't there to drive on Sunday ;), narrowed the field a bit  ;)

Mandy, if there was one class as there was in the past he would have finished first overall.

We are trying to get everyone use to running the two classes as next year there should be good numbers in each.

So in fact he finished first in his class (1 out of 3) but he did beat the rest of the field aswell.

Perhaps there could be the 2 classes and then an overall winner?

If Tony is good enough to get around on 37s in a front engined buggy and score better than the unlimited boys, then he should be entitled to another award.

Yep - he probably should.

For the numbers that we currently have we should still probably be just running everybody in the one class.

The problem with only running one unlimited class is that people will just build to that one unlimited class (ie single seaters) and we would never develop the modified class which I believe is the most important class in terms of the overall marketability of the sport. We need good looking buggies that resemble normal 4wds so that this sport can appeal to a wider audience.

So this is why we have the two classes. Two classes that are different and equal in terms of prestiege (sp?). This is also why we wont have an overall winner cause this would then mean people would just build for the overall title.

Tony just drove really bloody well to take out the best score. The two top moon buggies each had a bit of bad luck which caused them to DNF an extra obstacle each which Tony didnt do but if you look at the individual course scores you can see that Tony consistantly had very good scores compared to the rest. His worst course was B! where he got 22 compared to Petes 1 and adrians 6 but this course had a 20 point panel eating bonus line that Tony would have driven easily but didnt have too.

Put it this way - if I was competiting in or building a moon buggy I would look at this competition very closely to see why they didnt dominate.

Time in the seat may have been a factor here too, Sam.

Peter and Matt had no time in the moon buggies and there was no testing before the event.

Has Tony just spent way more time is his 2 seater and knows it really well, or is it that the moon buggies just weren't quite up to the comp on the day?

Having seen the moon buggies, it looks as though they should kick butt. Better COG, rear (or centre mounted, really) engines, and maybe less overall mass. They should be climbing the rocks better than the front engined 2 seaters.

Who knows?

moon buggies aren't the be all and end all of rock crawling. Check out who won the last Supercrawl - a couple of good old boys in a home made "normal" looking buggy. They beat the top dollar teams with the top technology moon buggies. It's all good to watch though, whether it be a moon buggy or a more car like looking buggy.

The Tractor that won Supercrawl might not be hi-tech but it sure helps having around 100 degrees of steering lock with strength to boot!

Tony did an awesome job - as he always does. It's still a tall ask to get someone and throw them into a new vehicle and expect them to perform straight away. Added to that was the fact that the vehicles hadn't had a chance to do any testing which caused a few unexpected problems.
