2005 Logan Challenge - Black Duck Valley - Oct 15th/16th

Our tem consisted of Steve in the Striped Tomato, Shane in Big Red, BJ in the stocka with lockers, trent in The Bush Canary and Myself in the Big GQ. Thanks to you guys as I had an awsome weekend. Was pretty bloody wet and greasy towards the end of the event and was a non stop weekend.
Thanks again also to the navis Darren, Chris, Grant, Chris2 and Ian. These guys quite often do not get the recognition that they deserve but continued to bust their arse all weekend for us to the point where my navi (Ian) was physically exhausted and ran the length of SS10 throwing up every 20mtrs. I did kindly remind him though that I didn't have time for him to be stopping and throwing up and that it might be a good idea if he kept up with me
Thanks again to everyone involved (officials, organisers, other competitors, etc.) for a great weekend.

edit: I have to clarify this post, I was implying it could've been an involuntary action by me since some comments this weekend made me nervous. If Darren had in fact created the "present" it would've had a much bigger girth

I would like to say a big on behalf of Bega Road Wrecking Racing for a great weekend. Fantastic fun playing in the muk and mess.
As BIG GQ would like to find the guy who left the "Present" on his chair we would like to find the mug that thought it was funny to set the hubs on Steve's 60 series to FREE just before we went into the gorge on Saturday night. Might have made more than a little bit of difference to our time.

is the time, money and effort Steve put into backing this comp. Crappy acts like this do far more than hurt a teams time, it hurts our sport overall, especially when it happens to the guys who are putting their hands in their pocket to help make an event happen.I was happy to see so many teams win SS's this year and see the points so close. I would have to say that Trackabout had the swankiest out fits and the busiest door stickers I have seen.
If there was a team spirit award it should have gone to the Zukes of Hazard (how good is that name) for getting into the gorge on Sunday.
I was in "Bob the Builder" with Phil and I know how hairy that was in a Zuk so well done guys, oh and Bob says well done too.

Im starting to get a collection of them now we have painted the hubs to make it easier to see if they have been unlocked but i reckon if you cheat to win then you haven't won at all.

Don't get too upset over BIG GQ's "present" guys. We could blame it on team hijinx, or could it be to do with the fact that Darren repeatedly told team members that he'd "enlarged my colon" in the tent the previous night, or maybe there were other, more sinister goings on...who knows?
The unlocking of hubs is a different matter though. I remember seeing guys with big white lines painted through their hubs to make it easy to see if someone has unlocked them. As far as I'm concerned it is ridiculous that you should even have to be thinking about the possibility. To go out and try to drive obstacles and stages such as the gorge in the belief that you have 4WD when in fact you do not is downright dangerous. The risk to the driver, co-driver, vehicle and spectators is high enough without idiots doing things like that which could easily result in a serious accident. Shame on you whoever did it, for your own sake I hope nobody finds out who you are.
Anyway, I have to say a big thanks to Marshy and Julie, all the officials, sponsors and other helpers for putting on the event. Despite the weather and miserable camping conditions we had a ball. We didn't get to see any other teams competing which is always a shame but we did get to keep hearing on the rumour mill about the excellent (and sometimes not so excellent) results of the other teams. As others have said, it was a really close fought comp and the stage wins were shared around amongst several very competitive teams which was great to see.
We were a little disheartened at not winning any stages as there were a couple we felt we'd done really well on, but when the overall results were read out we were absolutely stoked with finishing first. I guess it shows that teamwork, effort, consistency and reliability go a long way in this comp - and probably other too.
When we left Brisbane on Friday night we were still only a team of 4 cars, if BJ hadn't stepped up in the little pink
Hilux we wouldn't have stood a chance of figuring in the overall standings. BJ, like everyone, drove the wheels off his truck and the navi's worked tirelessly throughout every stage - including Grant who hadn't been navi before and Chris who'd not even been offroad in a 4WD before Saturday, never mind driven, directed or recovered one! By the end of some stages we had navi's who were physically sick with effort and Trent collapsed with exhaustion after the last stage of the day from all the effort of winching, bridge building, running around and most of all driving a Hilux on 37" Claws at 8 psi in his first comp - with no power steering! It was taking help from his navi just to turn the steering wheel.
I hope everyone enjoyed the comp as much as we did, congratulations to all those who took part.

On behalf of everyone at Team Trackabout Racing I would firstly like to congradulate Steve and his team on their great win! For all the reasons already mentioned in previous posts your win is truely remarkable and well deserved. WELL DONE!
Thanks to Marshy for once again organising a great event. Held under difficult conditions and putting up with a heap of unnecessary crap from the minority you can hold your head high. I only hope that this type of negativty shown by some people dosen't dishearten you for running the event again next year. THANKS AGAIN!
Well done to all the other teams on their respective results. A highly competitive and closely fort weekend. This is best indicated when you compare last years scores with this years. One things for shore, everyone thinking of competing next year will need to be well prepared because I can only see it getting even closer.

I have to say thank you to both Simon and Julie for organising this great event (of which I am all new too) and Scotty (83Lux) and the team of great guys that put faith and aloud Shane and I to loose our competition virginity.
At first i was nervous and was seeing the comp in a whole different conception to wat it really was. I thought my lack of fitness was really gonna be a problem, but from the word go I had an absolute ball, the adrenalin and constant action took my mind off how possibly unfit i could be and I seemed to press on fine.
Am very happy to have had the oppourtunity to be in it and I definately will hope to be in it again next year
I learnt so much from the saturday alone its unbeleivable.
The jeep stood up to all that was thrown at it so did Shane well done.
As already has been mentioned its was a bit of a downer to miss all the other teams competing as i luv to watch and learn. Also the rain was a bit of a PITA but thats nature at its best.
Again big thanks to the organisers and all the Officials, competitors and spectators.
Also another thank you to KFCs 15 peice bucket that supplied me and Shane with all the nutrients we needed for the weekend

Good one Steve...now we will get a penalty for leaving gear on the course. I have had mine release on my Suzuki after getting them caught on a rock but this was deliberate.
It is over now and I doubt the guilty party will come forward so lets move on and focus on the positive. Well done Simon and Julie for a great weekend.
