Question for the L28 Gurus

Post by rhymus »

L28's run on plain old unleaded right? Is it okay to retard timing enough to eliminate ping and use ULP or am I better to just run on PULP. Also, why do some PULP's still ping and others do not? Best so far is BP ultimate. What do you blokes find?

L28s are fine for unleaded without any flashlube or anything....
Premium unleaded isnt needed at all.....

just change your timing so it doenst ping and it will run fine on Unleaded.

Thanks Mr. Screwball. Is it just a matter of winding back the timing or do other things need to change? For example points gap or heat range on plugs. Will there be a loss of performance? I can't afford to lose much!!

Just tune it up and adjust the timing with maybe a new set of points ( standard gap ) and just run it on unleaded.

We've been using premimum over ULP for about the last 6 months in a variety of engines ..... 350 chevs, 308's, 253's, L28, 4 cylinder donks and even the rideon mower

getting better MPG,
geting much stronger horse power, ( yes it is noticable )
getting easier starting, :finger:

are the most noticable things ...... add to that ....

engine oil useage is lower, and is remaing much cleaner in its appearance.
:D

ULP is shyte in comparision

I always use PULP... the price difference is offset by the difference in fuel consumption.

Some engines ping on any fuel due to the carbon build up on the pistons and/or the engine running too hot and igniting the fuel before the spark plug does.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
