electronic ignition

Post by shakes »

going to be putting the piranha kit for a GQ in on the weekend, and after having a quick think about it, the Coil in my car is currently run through a ballast resistor reducing the voltage to the coil to about 5 volts??

So if i remove the resistor and upgrade to a 'true' 12v/elctronic based coil I'm assumin I'm gunna be better off. I'll be replacing the coil, leads and plugs anyway and dont want to replace the coil to find out later on I'll get more spark by doin as mentioned

sorry for the long post
Thanks
Simon

IIRC the ballast resistor is bypassed when starting - giving extra spark to help start the engine. As soon as you let the key go to "ON" the ballast resistor is switched back into the ignition circuit.
