Under Bonnet liner

Post by LuxyBoy »

Mine is disintegrating; Yota want big $ for a new one which will just die again anyway.
I was thinking about ripping it all off and using a spray on type material like under body deadener but with heat resistant properties. I am also adding 1 air vent either side of the bonnet to help heat dissipation.

Any ideas on practicality and what to use?
Anyone done similar?
Kind Regards,
Brad

Maybe on really hot engines/new cars it stops the shiny paint melting?

So u would want one in that situation.

does your engine get hot enough to warrant the vents.a copetition dude once said to me he thinks its not a good idea to have holes in the bonnet.the reason is when doing water crossings etc the engine bay wont fill up as fast if it can pocket the air in there.bit like pushing a up side down glass into the sink.i dare say it would work alot better if the bonnet had a rubber seal all around.just something that made me think twice.its probably clutching at straws but i could see where he was coming from.

i set fire to mine with an oxy torch while doing some under bonnet welding... I thought it would have been flame retardant but its not.

Off wid it!

I had one on a past 4b and it got wet and sagged down onto engine parts so ripped it off and found rust starting under there. Better gooonne.

Noticed no difference except there was no where for sand and water to get trapped close to metal. My 2c
GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

vents in the bonnet also let steam out when doing river crossings and block your driving view - its not fun not seeing where you got to go
worthog who likes to play in the mud, just follow me, if you can
