Taking off transfer case

Post by Glennb »

Hi all, Just a question on removing my transfercase from auto trans.
Do I have to take out the auto to remove the transfer case or can it be done by just removing the cross member and unbolting the tranfer case while the trans is still on the car.
Also can any body give me a rough idea about how many hours labor I would be looking at if I got a mechanic to do the change over of the transfer case??
Cheers

For a mechanic to do it $300-350.
You can remove the t/case from the auto with it still in the car but it's very fiddly, best with a few mates to help.
We did a 5sp that had a 2" body lift (makes it a lot easier) without it I'm sure the gearbox & t/case would have had to come out together.
