A thermo is not a fail safe method to avoid overheating. A motor should run at normal temp standard in normal situations. Was it overheating on the road, or did it just heat up on the beach. When you put the new radiator back in, be sure to check over the motor for what caused the overheat. The thermo might be masking another problem.

That could be the problem. Check the thermostat opening temperature of the one you have fitted with the specs for the Suzi....run so hot that it blow a hose and cracked the radiator even when running a thermo of a v8
Alternatively, it is fairly common when flushing a cooling system to clog up the radiator with the crud from the engines water jacket.
