Whats wrong with my 1.3 carby?
Whats wrong with my 1.3 carby?
After a trip to stockton beach on about the hottest day of the year the other day the sierra has been has been idling almost 1000rpm higher than usual (up to 2700 at the lights ). The temp has been sitting around 2 needle widths higher as well. Raditator is near new, idle is not related to having lights on etc. so nothing in the search....
sounds like auto choke may be sticking on....often caused by too low water level, or blockage in pipes that feed the auto choke.Crawford wrote:my idle starts normal.. but after like a 2minute drive it sits really high!!
could that be the idle screw to?
running hotter suggests a water flow issue, which can affect auto choke.

The pipes running in and out of the auto choke should be warm to hot when car has reached running temp.
If one pipe is cold, it is not flowing.
Pull one end of and blow the crud out usually works.
You can also see the mechanism slowly move up as car warms.
worth a look into.

check your choke, too, water can get air locks or crud in them, causing ckhoke to stay on, which in turn keeps the idle high, cos it thinks it coldMeteor wrote:After a trip to stockton beach on about the hottest day of the year the other day the sierra has been has been idling almost 1000rpm higher than usual (up to 2700 at the lights ). Officially the wax plug that moves the auto choke has stopped working, will know if it's a water flow issue tomorrow. Couldn't go on driving it with the idle getting up around 3,500, brakes would be f$cked in a week.... Having the thing start up like an old radial engine did sound kinda cool though.
