Cruiser Removing Kidneys

Post by DJD »

Gday guys, Ive got a HZJ75 ute, I recently splerged and bought 16x8 alloy rims with 285,75x16 BFG MT,s to replace the standard split rims, the prob is the ride feels heaps harder. I've tried dropping the pressure but that started to stuff the edges of the tyres. Any ideas ?

What pressures wher you running before and at what presussure did you lower to that wore the edges off.

I run my 31x10.5x15s (both A/T`s and M/T`s) at 38psi,found this gives a nice ride in my Hilux.

I had them at 42 which is what the tyre shop said to run the MT's at, I lowered them to 36 with no real difference then to 32. 32 at the front started to wear the edges badly.

DJD, im sure its not the tryes as ive had them and found them great on an 80's. ran them at 38 all round as they are a very soft compound.

does it feel firmer at the front or back of the ute, a seized shock or 2 can do wonders if you enjoy bruised kidneys.

( i could lend u my grandma to roll into the back of the ute, at 4ft 13in and 130kg she'll flatten it out nicely ) :D

Guzzla funny you should mention some weight in the back, Ive got 2 toolboxes & filled it up with scaffold the other day & it did make a difference. I might wip the shocks out and take a look on the weekend, there are 8 leaves in the back 6 thin 2 at the bottom are short & thicker is it worth taking 1 or 2 out ?

dont have much experience with leaf springs but i do know that taking some out will soften the ride but will lessen your carrying capacity a little. i think the thick ones at the bottom are mostly responsible for mega weight carrying but please ask others to confirm.

the bottom two "short and thicker" are load leave's. when there is weigh in the rear your spring's will sang and stop at these leave's. if you remove them it will flex better but be poo with weighy in the rear. i think might be wrong.
