All these 4x4's are great but for pure off road ability check out the Pinzgauer or Haflinger. You will be pleasantly surprised. Sure there are less of them around but they really do kick ass in the bush. :!:

Toyota have both the hilux and the landcruiser. nissan have only the patrol. So lets half the Yota's score to make it even :D

i voted land rover thres so many ppl willing to knock them . yet have had nothing to do with them and yet there "experts"

second would be zooks thay allways amaze me off road but in standard form are very average.

third would be nissan fark anything other than a toyota or a jeep.

as for old mades bundera beating a range rover recon if ya pulled 4 leads off the rangie it might have a chance. might.

as for toyota winning the poll remember sonys betamax videos far better picture and sound than vcr. yet vcr was more popular than betamax cause of good marketing and price nothing more. toyotas are just cheap well marketed crap advertised by john laws on shity am talk back

After Owning a BJ42 and having heaps of electrical problems I now own a Disco  I think for a true all rounder the rangy/disco are probobly the easiest car to live with and for going off-roading. And has anybody read any articles about the new Rangy Sport and Discovery 3. Nothing will comes close to touching these 4wd's straight off the showroom, on and off the road! Even the mighty Partol with its coil live axles and LSD is left way behind.

The new Landrover frame will be in use for many years to come, just like the Rangy frame from 1970. The current defender frame is very similar except for being 10 inches shorter (SWB 90) or 10 inches longer (the 110).

So my vote is for the Landrover, because the are pretty much the only 4wd company that is willing to be innovative. Sure toyota and nissan will probably come out with something more reliable but they will copy the ideas from Landrover. Toyota and nissan are pretty much copying the european car companies.

LR don't make a 2WD and haven't done since the early '50s. If you are referring to the Freelander, it is constant 4WD. It uses a viscous centre diff - the IRD - to provide constant 4WD. It is not like CRVs et al.

Land Rover haven't made part-time 4WDs since the late 70's.

In its present form, this poll is meaningless. Toymota and Missin sales far outnumber Land Rover or Jeep.

So if that is taken into account and the poll results are normalised, then you'd find that Land Rover is winning the poll by a huge margin.

High volume sales doesn't mean a better 4WD.

Is that like "drooling"?

drool

• verb 1 drop saliva uncontrollably from the mouth. 2 (often drool over) informal show excessive pleasure or desire.

• noun saliva falling from the mouth.

— ORIGIN contraction of DRIVEL.

Drivel - most stuff in this thread.

drivel
/drivv’l/

• noun nonsense.

• verb (drivelled, drivelling; US driveled, driveling) 1 talk nonsense. 2 archaic let saliva or mucus flow from the mouth or nose.

If you're a sheep you drive whatever the other sheep tell you to drive.

Did someone say that there would be a free tweed coat and pair of gumboots to any land rover nut that posted in here..

Since I was a small kid we have had lots of 4x4's Landrover's Disco and a series 3, Suzuki's SJ410 and Sj413, Nissans MQ x 3, GQ x2 and GUx1, Landcrusier series 80 and Dudlux's LN106 and Gen1 RN ..

I now own a GU and a Dudlux Gen 1 (wishing I still had my Zook) I like the Patrol the best as a tourer/Daily driver, The Zuk was a great toy and the Lux's make a great work hack ...

All I recall about the Disco was lousy ergonomics, uncomfortable seats , and dodgey wireing, pitiful fuel economy and keeping a few spare shopping bags around to put the things that fell off it into... Apart from that it was great

If you have ever tried giving a Landy's a hiding offroad, then tried A Patrol, you will realise ther are better things to do whilst away than replace axles & gearboxes.

Nissan driveline rules.

I love it how some landy fanatics get so defensive about their beloved vehicle  My grandfather used to be in the landrover club, he told me that back in his day the landy lovers would defend them to the teeth when anyone ever bagged them out for weak axles etc, they would keep driving them and saying they were the best even if they broke an axle every trip, nothings changed :finger:

Oh and toyotas are it as far as an all round 4b, not the strongest, not the heaviest, but just right  the poll speaks for itself :D

If you could only vote if you have owned a Landrover and a Toyota/Patrol, I think the vote would be vastly different. You would get a more educated vote and Landrover would win. (I would upgrade the axles and diffs first but)

So Patrol owners just aren't educated. :P :P
