Hi guys I want to put a second hand long range fuel tank in the diesel Patrol, there seem to be quite a few available second hand. Is there any difference between one out of a petrol patrol and a diesel Patrol? Are they pretty easy to fit? Anything I should be watching out for? Thanks.

i had browne davis but an internal baffle snapped the welds and was sloshing around the tank
took out the sender unit. :(

On the last long trip i did, we saw 4 aftermarket long range tanks that broke in some way. the best one was a hire rodeo campervan, stuck in the middle of the track. the tank just fell out and wedged under the rear diff such that the rear wheels were off the ground - the occupants were no where to be seen.
Don't bother with dodgy tanks. they are more trouble than they are worth, especially when you are actually in a location where you need the extra range (ie. loaded up and remote). stick with the best brands. i have a ~150L replacement for my GQ from Long Ranger which has not caused any problems. From what i have heard, LRA is the only other brand i would buy - i am sure everyone has an opinion though.
More of my 2c - a bigger replacement for the standard rear tank is easier and less drama than an auxilaury. price up the second filler, hoses, and transfer methods (or switching solenoids) then trying to fit the bastard, and even a brand new replacement tank looks good.

I personally wouldn't go for anything else but a LRA (Long Range Automotive) replacement tank. They are rock solid and fairly easy to mount and the approx 150 ltr give you sufficient range in most situations.
I heard mixed reports on other brands.
