I got energitic today but then farked up

Post by MissDrew »

Finally after about 3 months of my lux sitting on jack stands with nothing but springs under the front end I started putting my new housing under it.

All started out good. Cut the standard shock brackets, steering damper bracket and trac bar bracket off the new housing. Then cut the shock brackets and the steering damper bracket off the bent housing, cleaned em up ready for welding to the new housing.

Put housing under lux so that I could get the shock brackets in the correct spot, tac welded them in place then checked them, then welded them on fully. So far all is going well.

Got new swevel bearings out of box, put the races in the housing and greesed up the bearings. I then proceded to reasemble the swivel and hubs etc and fitted the steering back in place.

I then went over the the bench and picked up the retainers and bolts for the seals and felts that are on the back of the swivel. I then turned back to the Lux and sat down ready to bolt these in place.

This is when I yelled FARK!!!!!!!!!!!!! very loadly and threw what was in my hands back on the bench and went inside and decided to stay away from the POS Hilux for another week or I`d end up putting a match to it.

Now tell me what you think I forgot to do

I wouldnt bother.
we used to replace a lot of these in workshops and all we used to do was cut them on a angle and fit that to the top with a little bit of silicon added to the join. Never had one come back with a problem.
But if you have not fitted the CV and hubs then i guess its not much work doing it right.

I have only once put the swivel hub back on and remembered to put the wiper seals on. Every other time, I've forgotten and sometimes even have the freewheeling hub and caliper back on. That's when you yell really loud!

At least it makes for good practice.

For the record, I'd say that I have forgotten this step say 5-7 times

I have everything but the hub cover on

I think I`ll just put the old seals back on the way ruff says, then the next time I have it apart I`ll put the new ones on.
