Ok I am thinking seriously about taking my bundy off the road for a few months to do an engine conversion.
I have F'All power and have a high fuel consumption, go figure.
It currently has the 22R.
What engine can I put in it, how much is it gonna cost and what else am I gonna have to modify (remembering I am in Tassie and they dont really give a sh*t)?
I want good economy but more power.
I know marks4wd adaptors have some good info on there site about the commo v6. Where else has some good info?
I am open to all suggestions (within reason, ie. no 350chevs ) .
Please give reasons for ur choice.

I thought you wanted decent economy? With a 253? Forget it!!!
Surely someone makes a kit for the Bundy for the V6 commo. Should be able to buy the kit and that sump would be a bolt on.
A mate of mine just finished a V6 commo conversion on a Datto 720 King Cab (4WD) and the kit he got was not bad, it included the sump. I'll see if i can find out where he got it from.

yeah marks 4wd adaptors do a kit for the v6 commo into the bundy. infact that page you found was a cut and paste from them.

The $950 sounds like the average price up here for a complete set-up. You can buy complete V6 VN's from the auctions for $1000 registered.
If you are going to use a Commo V6 dont use an Early VN engine. Make sure that the top radiator hose goes into the front of the manifold not the back. The early engines are prone to failure and have the top hose going to the rear.

Thanks for the info Daniel but I am still pretty sure I am going to go Holden V6, as the parts are cheaper than ones for a jap import toyota motor.
Spoke to Tim at Marks 4wd Adaptors this morning, he gave me some good advice about what I will need etc... Once I have the funds, hopefully in the next few weeks, I will order the stuff and get a VN V6 Comodore engine locally. Sounds like it should go alright.

Anyway there is no going back now. I have started to pull out the old 22r .
Spent about 2hours on it today:

Checked out some engines this morning. Found a good VP one but will need a flywheel .

I removed the radiator, the radiator shroud. loosened the bolts to the bellhousing, removed the blots holding the exhaust. Removed powersteering fluid-hoses and resivoir. Removed wires to the alternator and startermotor..etc...etc...
unfortunatly there was no other way to get the car into the garage and it would have been several inches to high.
Will post up some pics from now on.

I love your avatar, sort of fitting for a Tasmanian. I would honestly listen to bundytime, or Ruff.
the economy of the Holden will be bad, a Toyota import motor has expensive parts cause they dont fawk up, commodores are the opposite (but cheap) a toyota motor might fit better as Bundytime, suggested. The aftermarket computer and better reliability and performance should pay for itself. bundytime has been there.... so have I dont fawk with it..........
I think a guy that has no idea what a charcoal canister is, should think twice about doing the complete conversion of a V6. Please remember when you loosen all the bolts and take the engine mounts out, do not be underneath it unless it is well supported.
Best of luck!! (Toyota motor will be cheaer in the long run) no bellhousing needed, and you are getting a custom flywheel anyways, they take the teeth off your flex plate and fit them to a flywheel. I would seriously harass bundytime for everything he knows about the 1G and go that route!!! He is the bundy master on here!!

ok sorry about the delay.. here are some pics from the other day,
The engine bay is almost empty now. Since the photos I have removed the bellhousing, slave sylinder, aircon hoses and pipes, powersteering hoses and pipes and alot of unneeded wiring.
A guy came and looked at the engine the other day, he is keen and will try and raise the money over this week hopefully.

Ok I thought you guys would be interested in what I used to lift the engine out...
no it wasn't block and tackle.....try a tifor hand winch!!
Worked bloddy well. I have a photo somewhere, will try to find it.
I used the winch horizontally (mounted on the roof of the gararge under the house) [so leavers pointing towards the ground] with the winch being fastened around one of the massive horizontal steel I beam supports under the house and used a snatchblock to redirect the wire to the engine!!!
