wheel size

Post by macy918 »

Hi guys,
i was wondering whether it is possible to run different size rims on a series 1 disco (late 93 built). it seems that there is a much bigger choice of 2nd hand tyres to fit a 15" rim out there than 16's. i'm guessing if u can that it follows that you can run 32" tyres without too many dramas???

I wouldn't bother - the 16" tyres have a much higher load rating and are a lot more structural IMO.

What size are you looking for ?

i would like to run 32's but have been told before that there is an issue with torque and gearing if you go bigger than 245/75R16 which i believe is 31"?? so i will probably go those.

32's will run ok on a D1....but they wont fit without cutting the guards. The D1 had a lot narrower wheel arches than the D2 so unless you want to start cutting metal, 31's are the biggest you will fit.
Thanks,

I have seen a S1 disco on with 235/85-16s (32") on the stock steel rims and no guard trimming. Didn't have a very close look at it, but I think it only had a spring lift and no BL - but not sure.
