Engine swaps...

Post by Arcadion »

Hello all,

I have a 52 Willys CJ3b with the original f-head hurricane four banger in it. It's seen some hard times and has finally died. I want to take this opportunity to put something else in, that has a little more oomf, and is a little more modern. I don't mind carby engines, but was thinking efi. I have a suzuki sierra as well, and compared to the jeep they are so damn close it's not funny. The sierra has a 1.3, and i can change that to a 1.6l efi motor from a vitara. I was thinking of doing this to the Jeep. Has anyone looked at one of these motors for the jeep? Or has anyone got any other suggestions? I'm not really looking for a 6 or 8 cylinder, but will go 6 if the appeal is there. I don't want to wheelstand the thing, just make it a better daily driver, as well as have some more fun wheeling it in the dirt. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

I just got rid of a 151cui 4 cyl from a 1983 CJ7 that could have been an option for you while it needed a rebuild you could have had it as I took it to the tip.

Anyway have you considered a small deisel, look in the latest edition of Jeep action they have a story on a guy with a 2a and a izuzu deisel I have seen this Jeep in action and it is a weapon, almost the perfect engine for it

a inline 6 would be too much work so a physically small v6 like the commodore engine is or only real option there and your right a V8 will make it a handful while it can be done you will have very little Jeep left in it when done

4 cyl try looking at a hilux engine while it will be 100% custom it could be an option

just giving you other option's

pains me to suggest it - but Dunnydoore v6 would be a good option.

what about an Isuzu 2.6l efi out of a Rodeo? I have always found them very zippy to drive, even with a load on.
