Ignition playing up

Post by NIK »

Hi I have a 85 seirra and I pulled the dash to clean out the heater.
When I put it back together I turn the head lights on the lights dont work but it lights up the idiot lights on the dash ( hazards, park brake, check engine etc ) and powers up the ignition. When I start it to turn it back of you have to turn the headlights off.
Any ideas were to look? Ive been looking for loose earth wires or cut wiring but am having no luck. Any ideas would be HUGELY appreciated.
Thanks Nik.

Without a wiring diagram it's a bit hard to guess. Is it possible you've re-connected two sets of plugs incorrectly? i.e. crosswired headlights and ignition switch? Or just plugged once connector back to front?

Good luck,

Scott

Ok I,ve just had another play this is what I,ve come up with.
The parkers work fine when I turn the driving lights on the hazard lights only on the dash light up. Everything else seems to workbut with the car running I have to turn the lights off to stop the motor. Sosome how the ignition and lights are crossed.

Its all good now. I had a mate look at it and he found it was the headlight switch.
