Are they the same diff? Aside from the ratio difference? Same strength?

I just put a 4.3 outta a 2x4 and bolted straight in the only difference i know of is that the 4x4 is spoa and the 2x4 is underslung.

I've got a 4 x 4 housing that is a bit second hand (rust and had a few different mounts over the years). Local wrecker has a 2wd diff and wanted to start with a fresh housing....

I thought the 2wd diff had less strength, ie thinner tubes, less bracing
