GQ Alternator

Post by ozy1 »

as i currently believe standard they are about 55 amps,

i would like to find out what the max is you can get them rewound to as i have a shortage of power.
in the car i have Duel batteries
MP3 player, Amp, upgraded head lights 90/130, 4 130W spotties, winch, UHF and am radios, fridge, 3 cig outlets, ARB comp, 70W reverse lights, going to have camp light,
and with all thatight i think i better get a fire extiguisher.

so should i get the standard rewound or get a second alternator?

He runs 5 radios + moozik, + Fridge winch lights etc GPS, compressor, lockers, etc etc..

If you get rid of 2 of the spotties the alt will cope OK.

only upto 85amp is reliable, after that they are not as good, as they are not designed to run that hard. even the 140a from the gen 3.

only going on the words of most of my auto elec customers, they tend to think that the higher amp alternators give more trouble than the 85 and lower.

That's cool, I can't talk from personal experience. My old motor only had a 60 amp job, and I don't have the new engine, with bigger alt, up and running yet :?

i never had a problem with it, apart from mud damage!
i looked into the diesel side of stuff and you can get an external vac pump so you can run a standard alt.... worth a look thats for sure as the standard alts are lots cheaper than the diesel models
