Can anyone tell me what the average price of a late 80's early 90's zook is, and is there any major point to look out for

depends on the year and the model as you have covered two types the narrow trak and wide trak models the prices change the 80s are narrow one ltr engine sierras and are cheaper the 90 are wide track ltr 1.3 5 speed

buy a wide track model (1988.5 onwards)
price varies from $3k-$8k
condition can vary a lot and you mostly get what you pay for

i'm sure people here will be able to tell you what to look out for specifically

look out for rust in the windscreen frame...it can get pretty tragic (like mine is)

on teh topic of rust:
- door sills
- between the windshield and body where the antenna cable passes through
- under the rubber seal for the rear tailgate
- front body mounts

??? I own an 85 Narrow Track and its a 1.3 5 speed, the wide track came in around 88 didnt it? And i thought they went 1.3 5spd in around late 84?

My 91 WT cost me 5k but if I did it again, I'd buy a late NT modem (1988) and offset the rims to WT specs

Steve, I have a NT, why would you buy a NT model and offset the rims to WT specs? what is involved with this.. just inserting spacers?

I am not Steve, but, the springs are mounted further in on the Nt, thus if you space hubs, or offset the wheels, you get more travel. Also NT's are cheaper, so more money left for mods, etc. Wheel spacers aint legal in all places, but offsetting wheels is cheaper anyway, any good wheel works can do that for round $40 a wheel. In a nut shell, you finish up with stability of the WT, with better travel and less dollars spent. If ya have a 1.3, then adding the 1lite t-case gives 12% reduction. Cheaper than a rockhopper, christover

Put a 1 litre in my zook last weekend Every bit of that 12% is well worth it. 80$ commpared to $1000 is a bit more of a difference than 12 to 73 too.

I thought a series one rockhopper gave a 73% reduction in low, thats a hell of a difference to 12%


yes, sure is, rockhopper is on my wish list, will happen, but 12% is worth it for now. Mine was a 1litre originally, with 1litre diffs, I added the 1.3 motor to the 1.0 drive-line, so I'm actually 15% lower than a standard 1.3.
I think the S1 hopper is 60% lower in low box from the 1litre t-case and 80%lower from the 1.3 case???? high range is the same for 1litre, and 12% lower from the 1.3. Not sure if thats correct? christover.

Ahh yeah what Chis said, and you can get the centres cut out and re welded with more offset to a set of sunrasias for $40 per wheel.

The extra money for mods was my main reason for saying 1.3 NT.

i heard the 1985 and up are the ones to look for, because 1985 and below had all 4 drum brakes which = shit

Do you know of anyone who's found a combo of gears or another source of gear for a "mini rockhopper" for the Vitara like what the 1.0 transfer case was for the 1.3?
