Someone maybe able to shed some light for me.
After a weekend of wheeling i have now developed a clunk in the front end as i turn left then when i turn back to the right it clunks again as if something is shifting from side to side. I had a sticky couldn't see anything wrong, so would appreciate any ideas on what i may have over looked.
Thanks.

Check your Body mount. It has a bit or rubber around where it fits into the chasis. They have been known to wear out and start clunking. They did on mine after a trip offroad. The other thing it could be is the floor pan where it meets the fire wall, Patrol's sometimes seperate there if used offroad.

i also have a shutter in the drive train when i am cruising between 90k and 100k could this be my auto trans or tailshaft i have been told to check both
so you think the shutter will go away if i lower the auto trans 1 inch or does it have to be lowered to suit my lift kit. also what do i do to lower the trans can youtell mematthewK wrote:it common in the LWB with large lift kits to get shudder/viration in the gear box its as simple to lower the whole gear box 1inch ,GQ again wrote:patrolpaul wrote:Check your Body mount. i know this because a mate of my old mans in sydney had a 6inch lift put in by TJM they lowered the gear box 1 inch to stop vibrations in it
dose that make any sences to ya?>
You can make or buy spacer blocks that fit between the chasis and transmission cross member. Has to how much it would depend on how much lift you have.

Check rubber spring pads. Coil can move in the seat. Clark rubber may have some rubber sheet that you can make new ones out off.
Tie-rod - I bent this (steering arm that goes from passenger side rear of swival hub to the drivers side- ie makes drivers side turn). Bent it on a smallish rock. Then when turning or suspension was cycling, it would hit the sump (Morks thats what caused the dint). Fix get a new one or straighten the old.
Panhard bushes- Usually causes a virbration in the front end (mine was bad under brakes). Dont usually notice it while turning as it will have a constant sideways load.
TieRodEnds (TRE)- Dunno never killed one.
Steering box may have slack in it. But I would think that while it has load on it, it would be fine. And it would have teh clunk in both directions.
Body mounts- Hell we give them shit off-road. They wear out theres dodgy fixes, JUst buy new ones there good for a couple of hundred thousand k's. They tend to make more of a clunk when wet. Can notice it thru the floor. Also they may not be worn. May have broken a bolt or be loose. Stick the rattle gun on the bugger.
Body sometimes cracks at the bottom of the firewall. And can make a clunking sounds.
