maruti gearbox conversion
maruti gearbox conversion
i've been told that a 1l maruti 4 speed can be converted to a 5 speed does anyone know if this is possible and if so how to do it
yes its possible.
I did it to mine.
The maruti 4sp a;ready has a 5sp main shaft. You will need a 5th gear and selector from a sierra 5sp.
You will also need a 5sp main shaft bearing for the end of the maruti box.
Machine the bearing housing out at the end of the main shaft to suit the 5sp bearing, and fit the 5th gear and selector.
The box will not require any machining to fit the gear.
Prolly a good idea to replace all the bearings in the box while you are there. If you need a machine shop to do the work for you, this exercise may cost you upwards of 5 or $600, and at the end of the day, you will still have to down change on hills, cos the 1 litre has no poke at all
I love my 4sp. Every morning I sit on the hyway doing upwards of 120kph ( off the speedo dial ) for 10-15 mins to get to work.
Nothing like 5000rpm in a 1 litre to wake you up in the morning
