What a great weekend..... This comp was great, I also went to Clubkhana last week. Both these comps were similar, & I hope more people support Son of Trials next year. These two comps are what keep the fun in 4wding, without having to spend a lot of cash on the truck......

Thanks to all who ran the event, it was great..

A dude in a white GU Patrol won overall, sorry don't know his name?

It was held out at the SORRA property same place as the Nissan Trials.

Anyway it was a great first run for the event, I think everyone had a good time, I did anyway.....well except for the blindfolded driving bit :x Stuffed that up something chronic! Other than that went really well, had three stages with zero penalties, had a great Navi (MissForbyNoob), thanks for the help Jess!

It was good to meet a few people off here too!

What A Weekend!

First congrats to the Nissan Patrol Club for putting on a such a fun event.

Thanks to the Waide family, for letting me invade their campsite from time to time. lol (Shawn thank your mum for wanting to constantly feed me)

Thanks to Dean, also made sure I was right for food and stuff all weekend!

Last but certainly not least, a HUGE thank to Beretta (Paul). I had an awesome time "helping" you through the courses. I still don't think anyone beat our score on the Golf Ball frisbee thing.. I reckon we deserve a prize for that in itself! lol

Was a great weekend, sorry I don't have any pics, only the video of Beretta doign the blindman thing... Oh and yes that was hard! I did it myself in my car!

First of all, whats wrong with shapes, they're under valued! Deano at least I know I can't cook, after what you did to that rice dude, you should start eating shapes too!
I had plenty of bourbon cans, the shapes were just for a bit of fibre so I didn't end up like you Deano, crouchin down on the side of the road!
I sacrificed my "mattress" for Jess since she forgot her sleeping bag (durrrr!), man those draws in my truck are hard, then I get some weird dude wispering to me through the sliding window at 2 in the morning "I see dead people"......Deano again!

Anyway once I put that blindfold on I had no idea where the hell I was, then I drive out of the course and take the blindfold off and who's the first dude at my window taking the piss? Dean of course!

I found out if I hadn't screwed that up so bad we would have been close to second, but the dude who won overall was miles in front, he did really well, so good on him!

Anyways for thos interested it will be on 4wdtv in the near future so once I know when, I will post up on here the date. We got some great footage and some funny stuff from the blindfold and frisby/golfball stages.

It was a good fun event anyone could have a go at and the club did an awesome job of it too, so make sure you get out there next year and get into it! :D

SHHH! You weren't supoosed to tell DRS about me forgetting my sleeping bag!!!

Deano's laughter (and farts) were so freaking loud! And go the shapes... I lived all weekend on cup Pasta, Mamee noodles and Museli Bars. Eliminates washing up and the "what do I do with it now its dirty" factor. Dean at least you didnt have as much food to take home since paul was helping you eat it!

And as for the blindfold thing, we so should have taken my measurement for it. lol We coulda killed it then... lol If I had one more go, I reckon I could have gotten closer... Steve so cheated! 47 cms??? CHEAT! lol

great weekend... next year... it's me in the 60! (Auto.. crawl... crawl.... crawl...)

mate thats a good looking gu patrol in the picture with the front wheels of the ground :D

the missus and i thought the comp was great, thats the missus driving in that pic .

the only thing i would change is the bling fold event (lose it altogether) and to a lesser extent the wheel on stump event , comes across like a show and shine etc at tuff truck , more driving ala trials and less funkarna would be my opinion , why not have 6 -8 course non funkarna , and also a few funkarna events that are scored totally seperate so if people are interested in the driving stuff only they wont be penalized for not doing the funkarna stuff and vice versa .

but all in all a very easy and safe competitive weekend for the whole family , will be there again next year

you said it in one Jai. There needs to be a median between something like the NISSAN TRIALS and SON OF TRIALS . There were plenty of capable trucks on the w'end , i turned up with 8" lift and strugled to use the little lever on the left, so did standard 4bs, however , great fun beats doing paperwork. mick.....

yeah mate but the whole idea was a maximum of 4 inches. from the site:

-------
Suspension/Body lift - a maximum of 4 inches combined. For those of you mathematically challenged, 4 is less than 4.5 or 5, so if your car is higher, think about it (or we could use the Husqvana suspension trimmer (again, not recommended))
-------

i think entering something that modified sort of defeats the purpose a little dont you?

I the the funkana style of the event was the main purpose. A lot of people with standard 4bs don't have a great deal of events to enter and I think this one was great.

The whole reason for making it easy (as was explained to me) was because it was meant to be FUN not competitve.

As for the blindfold event, I think keep it but alter the way its done. Like The avi has a radio and can only give a certain number of directions. Once that number is up, the navi can no longer say anything, and the driver is on his own.

Man you and Steve are freaks, I can't beleive how close you got to it! Must have exray vision I think! :?

I was bloody miles off as everyone reminded me when I drove out of the ring!

Personally I would do what Jess said with the navi giving a certain amount of directions, or drop the funkhana style tracks, personally I like the driving more.

ok it was fun but with $1000 worth of tyres for 1st place in each class it makes for competion

the standard vehicles had no dramas all weekend you don't need funkarna stuff included just because standard vehicles are entered , my missus and my mates missus both drove every course without a drama and both agree the driving courses were much more fulfilling and exciting .

and about the 4" suspension rule the officials said they weren't concerned about the suspension that much, more concerned about the tyre size and lockers not being used ? i suppose with too much lift you can put your self in a perdicament a lower car would have no dramas with and vice versa .

i would go so far as saying even let 35" tyres compete(their pretty standard these days) as long as no lockers and no serious engine mods , most courses wouldn't matter if you ran 35's or 29" tyres it was all pretty easy, but allowing 35's there might be a lot more rigs being able to enter that are running 35's unlocked and carn't justify going smaller for one comp and don't wanna risk panel damage in a harder style comp like nissan trials etc , but would still like to compete at a beginners entry level such as the son of trials

and for a blind fold event they should blind fold the driver and have them led by the navi only around a course such as the ball in the plate course its alot harder than you would think and it shows navi driver trust + comunication skills .

just some thoughts, once again either way we will be there again next years

Basically my point, and from what I was lead to believe, was that this event was supoosed to be FUN. Yep fair call on the prizes. The fact that the courses were soe asy, and very Funkana, made it more fun. How many times did you hear people over the weekend laughing and saying "If only I had done such and such??? It was so simple!!!" I know I heard it a lot, and thats what made it fun. The fact that is was so easy, yet so many were making silly mistakes, and were also able to laugh it off.

i do agree with you slightly though. The event DOES need some tweaking...

If you are looking for events that allow 35" tyres to compete in a class, there are plenty out there. If you are looking to run 35" tyres on your rig, I would say thet you already do some pretty serious driving on tracks. Most people I kmow run a beefed up suspension kit , & the possibility of lockers with 35" tyres. I don't quite class this as an entry level vehicle.
The event catered for the people that don't want big trucks. If you check out most of the comps that are run in a funkhana style, std class is 2" suspension, & 33" tyres. Modified is 4" sus, & 35" tyres, with most allowing lockers in this class. If you look at the Nissan trials, 35" puts you in their modified class, & I think they were trying to cater for the smaller thucks out there. I agree with the call, that it was easy, yes, but it came down to car controll. I too would like to see more driving events in it, on technical terain, but my truck is built around the std class rules for this reason, the damage is less & no need for driver aids like lockers. Don't get me wrong, I go where every other modified truck in our club goes, but when I bought my truck, I thought about what I wanted out of it, not how I wanted it to look tuff.........

P.S. I drive a Nissan Patrol GQ LWB Wagon, 2" sus, 33" tyres, drum brake rear, no LSD, a photo of my truck is up earlier in the posts, Maitland Districts across windscreen........

At the end of the day the event is aimed at stock or very close to stock vehicles, as mentioned above if you're running 35's or something close you're probably already driving some serious tracks and could easily have a go at a full blown comp.

I liked what they did with the tracks and the event has huge potential given that the majority of people (general public) drive stock 4wd's, just gotta get it out there to the average Joe that they can come and have a go at something like this, have a lot of fun and not damage their car (unless it's a jeep :D ).
Funny thing because when we were marking out the tracks there were a few little tricks here and there but no one really got caught out on the day, the tracks still made you think a little bit coupled with the target time to finish on. Don't worry I'm sure Chris Chapman already has a few ideas for next year!

Has anyone got anymore pics, would be good to see a few more!
