Alternator wiring

Post by reggie »

Just wondering if someone could answer this for me.
I have just put in a 308 in my MQ patrol and am currently doing the wiring on the alternator. The alternator is a Bosch one and there are no model numbers or anything on it. There are 3 terminals, "B+" goes directly to the battery, "D+" goes to the charge warning light. The other connection is "+" and I have searched long and hard but can't seem to find any info. Can somebody tell me what it is and where it is wired to.
I'd be very happy if someone could.
Thanks.

The other wire is the voltage sensing wire that regulates the voltage at 14.2 - 14.5 volts. It goes direct to the positive terminal of the battery.

Thanks mate.
So is this still the case if the regulator is an internal type regulator?

Yep, the B+ has a nut on it, the D+ is a push on type male lug and the + is a push on round male lug.

Um, I think the 3rd wire is not needed. I run mine with only the 2 wires and works fine. Just run it and see how it works with the 2 wires first.

Cheers

i'd say the push on round male terminal is for an electric choke, it might put out a lower voltage.

alt wiring

Post by mgundle »

the extra + terminal is connected directly to the B+ terminal via the rectifer its for a plug-in suppressor on the alternator which can be plugged in there or with a eyelet on the B+ terminal the
terminal that would run a choke or tacho in some cases is labled W which is feed of one of the stator windings
hope this helps any one out there with bosch alt dramas
