I dont know the laws in NSW but I as far as I know in QLD your only allowed to do a suspension lift of up to 33% of the travel or distance from bump stop to bumpstop and an increse of tyre size of 10% fom standard.
I dont know how any of the competing vehicles would pass a road worthy without major modifications and I know none would pass as they are at the event.
None of the vehicles should have to be regestered, and I am sure it is only for some sort of insurance reasons that they are, but call a spade a spade and dont try to pass of Monster trucks as upstanding road regestered vehicles that with only a tyre change and mudflaps would drive straight through an RTA inspection.
Maybee some of them would, but I dont see how.

What this means is that you can do a lift of up to 1/3 of the factory distance between bumpstops without an engineers report. Tyre size can be increased by 10% without an engineers report. Any more than 10% is to be signed off by an engineer.
As to how many of the rigs are 100% engineered and 100% road registerable, who knows. They still manage to draw a crowd.

Rear steer does not effect road rego, pit inspections or the like. All rear steer systems that have been engineered are for off road use only.. Simply fix the system with a pin or the like...........

Why should I have to "get over it and accept the comp for what it is" why cant event organisers think outside the box and realise comp vehicles should not have to be regestered.
Perhaps engineered yes, but why do I have to spend around $900 a year on rego for my v8 comp truck that never drives on the road.
Some may say that this is Bitching and Whineing, but then again others may say that it is the first step to changing a system that when looked at honestly, is a joke, NONE OF THESE COMP RIGS COULD RUN ON THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTIG PULLED OVER BY ANY COPPER THAT SAW THEM.
Why are competitors forced to carry out this charade, I think its so event organisers can cover there arse with regard to insurance plain and simple.
But hey why try to change it right.

I don't care one way or the other in regards to Rego, to me, it makes no difference to the specticle that is Tuff Truck.
But I would of thought for the sport to progress as a genuine motorsport, this issue needs to be addressed one way or the other.
Maybe the 4WD associations could lobby the various transport departments to have a conditional rego similar to rally cars, or go the other way and talk to a motorsport insurer like OAMPS and remove the need for rego at all.
Either way, until this is resolved people will always piss and moan about it, rather than just enjoy the event.

What would people rather watch, 3 inch lifted 80's etc with 33 mud tyres, or what we currently have. Why all the bitching and moaning. Did you go to tuff truck?? did you enjoy it?? if you answered yes to these questions, what is the problem?? So far the comp seems to work, big crowds, good driving and awesome rigs. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Actually I drive mine from my place to trails from time to time, just slap on the 37" MTRs and she's fine. It's engineered, so it's legal. As a responsible 4WDer, I don't drive the vehicle around in traffic or in the city. I only drive it to and from trails as I recognise it's lowered handling abilities due to the mods I've made to it.
But I agree that the rules should be tweaked a little. I was thinking about something along the lines of the vehicle must have a box chassis from the front diff to the rear diff. That will eliminate a lot of the buggy rear ends we're seeing.
PS: I'm not bitching, just offering suggestions on how to make the comp better for next year.

instead of whining about it, either offer solutions to your complaints or better yet run an event the way you want to or maybe get in touch with the organisers and offer your time and expert advice for future events.
it is very easy to sit on the sidelines and critise an event but unless you are in there and running it you can't imagine the things that need to be done to have a successful event. these guys have done well to get this event up and runnning again in a workable format. There and will be issues that arise whilst being run but there will be reasons why things are being run and worded as they are.
So maybe to the doubters either be part of the solution and get involved with workable solutions or a bit of quiet

i believe what Big Mav is trying to say is why is people like himself and a lot of other competitors forced to pay rego on a vehicle that they will never drive on the road, he is not saying that tuff truck should be road legal trucks...
unfortunately due to the typical society we live in now of sue,sue,sue...event organisers such as Tuff Truck and myself with Powercruise are forced to have little pieces of paper saying that yes the vehicle is registered as yes for insurance reasons it does ease the load on organisers of the event..if they were to be unregistered then the cost of insurance will rise and indeed even getting insurance becomes a whole lot harder.. so as you can see it makes the competitions cheaper for competitors to enter by having registered vehicles and dearer if not registered..basically the costs to competitors would even out in the end whether regoed or not..

I'm very surprised that there's all this bitching and whining over who has what and who spent what, racing in any form of motorsport all comes down to cubic dollars - not cubic inches. If you don't like it don't participate in it.

the reauirement for rego makes a mockery of the event
of course these vehicles are close to if not entirely unregisterable
the requirement for rego is to maintain a 'minimum standard' when it comes to safety
the problem is, like everyone has identified, none of the comp trucks these days are registerable, with the exception of those that come last at every comp
there is affordable insurance available now for unregistered comps, thanks to the ccda
i understand tuff truck were considering this for the 2006 event, but i guess they just ran with the rego rule:
what i believe this means is that the guys pushing the envelope for rego'd comps will just move onto buggy comps, taking the wind out of the sails of events like TT and the nissan trials
we all know what trucks we go to see;
the unregisterable ones with the neatly preserved rego sticker and dodgy pink slip in the glove box!

i am sick of hearing people bitching about how there is no pics and the whinning about diffent things like the stencils on the rocks.
i nticed somepeople complaining had not even gone to the event .
i myself travelled from townsville to the event which is 2500klm one way .
and i dont have a bad thing to say about the event .
so pull your heads in .
make thew effort to travel to the event and see it .
bring on the 07 tough truck event .

NO ONE IS BITCHING ABOUT THE EVENT
People are using this forum as place to express there thoughts about wether Comp only vehicles need to be regestered or not.
I did not make it to Tuff Truck as I am saving my dollars for for my entry fee for the Outback Challenge. However I heard it was an excelent event and good on the promoters for putting it on.
People have the right to express there ideas, and hopefully like The Queensland Winch Challenge, where vehicles do not need to be regestered, CHANGE WILL COME.
