Blue Plate Heaven

Post by rangemann »

It took 3yrs of looking and drinking along with 5weeks of doing work but I finally finished my conversion. My 84 with T/F now has a 5.0L with HSV chip, ZF Auto and 2" body lift. Already I have Pro's and Cons.

CONS:

ZF shifts to early for engine torque. Manual shifting gives much better performance.

PROS:

Sounds farking wild with twin exhaust.

Fused Spider Gears in rear rear diff.

Clunking front diff.

Ok, so maybe those aren't pros....... but i know how to change 'em out now :)

Gotta cut more holes in the bonnet, getting a bit warm. Flogged it pretty hard since getting it out of the shed and no gearbox problems....yet. If the ZF goes then I'm pushing the whole thing into the creek. but i'm pretty confident we got it right.

Thanks Auto_Eng for all your help. Your big words and and nit picking really made the job go faster.....hahaha, just kidding mate.

Thanks HSV Rangie for your info all those years ago.

Tips for anybody else:

Take photo's of everything BEFORE you pull it apart
Don't ask your engineer for advice - He'll just tell you the HARD way, Oops, I mean SAFE way.... ;)

Well I'd better go bootleg some more beanie babies so I can buy some fuel.

G'day rangemann

Good to here you finally got her on the road, I guess you've had some time on your hands. Hopefully you will get plenty of play time in now.
Cheers

Ben

Hey Ben!!

BMSA hey??

like i said, busted 2 diffs already and that was just from doing donuts
but it's running well. I was pretty scared i'd get some sort of electrical short halfway through the mary river but it was all cool, it's pretty low.

yeah, had plenty of time. got to organise some back pay. should be getting my visa monday, hopefully flying out within the week following that. time to make some money for all the driveline upgrades ;)

haven't upgraded the diffs or cv's yet. was thinking jacmac aktually. but i dunno, i'll take some time to think and read.
some searches are in order. there's crazy ideas everywhere in here.

i think HSV Rangie should do the search and list all the options in a sticky along with what size tyres certain options are likely to handle.
then i think he should provide contact details to source such parts.
also a breakdown of costs and work involved would be good too.
is that really too much to ask of your moderator???

ask not what you can do for your moderator, but what your moderator can do for you ;)

i'll see if i can put picks up this arv. not much to look at. same ol' same ol'
