Truth be known, my car is not engineered or registered at the momemt, but that should all be resolved this weekend. At least the engineer saw it 4 weeks ago and I have only 1 thing left to comply.

The vehicle is actually striiped down being resprayed today.. I see a few long nights over the next two weeks...

As for the car... it should be fine, I won't have a lot of time driving it in preparation, but the vehicle itself should be ready.

Besides it wouldn't be the OBC if I was well rested before the event.

But at very short notice I've picked up a co-drivers spot with Adrian Cauchi in the Kurmit Rangie trayback  Unfortunately his navvy injured himself and had to withdraw :bad-words:

Was at his workshop last night starting to set up my side of the vehicle and finishing everything else off. Haven't had the long build up and waiting for May to come around like previous years but I'm pumped and looking forward to the event and the socialising

Here's a pic of the vehicle I competed in in 2001/02.

Great stuff glad to hear he got a good navi :D As usual you will have a ball.Since deciding to withdraw from this years event I have had 4 offers to Navi/co drive which is nicely appreciated fellas but going dirt bike riding with a group of mates instead :D

Roll on 2007 OBC ill be back lol

At least your smart enough to admit it dude. Others I have heard in previous years were working up till the night before event before even starting the rig for first time.... not good.

Good luck on the other events you are heading to for the year.

Well last year they wher changing heads on cars the night before. And quite often people are tunning on the way. Dont know how good the tunes would be for comp use. But they would be good for the TPT stages.

New car

They say Roger Smith's new rig is ready to roll out the shed but he doesn't want to scratch it so it's staying indoors. New mtr, new transmission, new driveline, new control arms, new everything that broke last year, new lighting, new navi..

mine had all this and more all brand new and untested in hard surroundings-NEW- motor inc new everything eg radiator, fans etc, untested mafless tune - first one he has done for ulp, modified american sump rear drop (welded alloy),marks addaptor (2nd one fitted) dual transfers(2nd one fitted in oz too, machining on this was marginal i had to pean a circlip into position hoping to christ it does not left go. duals on an obc rig is stupid), gu diffs, home made drag link, fox steer dampner, lockers, shortened driveshaft rear, 2 piece front, crossmember, tray inc spare wheel mounts anchor mounts etc, exo, seats, steering wheel/boss etc harnesses, cage, window nets, compressor, gauges, fox shox and brackets completely fabbed from scratch, winches widened 6hp, brake mods, col herse soliniods etc new style plasma rope, free wheeling hubs, front bar, snorkel, dash built from scratch, entire truck rewired from scratch, 6 240's, 2 140's, beadlocks, tyres, home made ground anchor, fuel pump, modded tank position, new fuel lines, modded brake lines and valve position, new steer pressure, panhard mount made from scartch, rear heavily modded, front suspension linkages design and brackets, new bump stops and brackets, new diff gussets and bracing / trussing, all the little stuff like switches, diff breathers cable routing, coolant system completes redesign and new tank and guestimated cap pressures custom s/steel bends with 3 entrys, etc etc, exhausts made of s/steel need to heat cycle and check for cracks, etc

not just a list of gear a quick off the top of my head list of what has been fitted and modded this build stage and is currently untested! the only standard item left is the gearbox everything else has been played with. I also wanted to fit female rht gq tierod ends all round none of that stupid rht/lht and gu/gu crap. also the 3rds arms at the upper rear need replacing there is not enough thread with a 7" there stuff is so poorly designed every item i have had major dramas with. wish i just fabbed my own!

IF IT WAS JUST EVEN 10 ITEMS LIKE MOTOR, DIFFS, WINCH ETC WE WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE BUT SEE ABOVE

Good luck on the other events you are heading to for the year.
thanks mate appreciate it.

glad there is understanding of the situation by so many!

as i have said before if it was my desision i would be there. i have invested so much now that $800 for transport $2k for fuel etc would be nothing in the scope of things for fantastic testing for next year if nothing else.

All the best to Rog and ?+%$#@ this year. Last year it had a new motor & transmission and when we arrived in Broken Hill we discovered water in the oil which had to be sort of fixed. By the end of the event the t/case ended up stuck in low so it was trailored home. Trailing arms were replaced before the Alpine and I believe it now has new paint. With all the dramas from last year, even with lots of preperation before hand we still had fun. I hope this year with his new (well kind of new!!) navi they stay competitive and place well in the only car to have done all the OBC!!

Oh and Its grouse to see another TUFF looking Toyota. Hopefully between Sam and Coops the YOTA's can kick some Nissan buts!!

Bru don't take it to heart. I know the effort you have put in to get there only to get so close and have to withdraw. It's gotta kill you!!

It must be dissapointing for you, but is there any chance of going to spectate at all? At least this would give you a better understanding of the event in preparation for 07.

Bru - been following your build up of your rig for a long time. Shame u have pulled out. Finish the rig and drive it! Spectacted at OBC 2003 and was impressed, IMHO lots of rigs basically simple in design but highly strenghtend / modified to last the distance. Also big hp helps in the sand such as at Dineen. If u have not been before spectating it gives u a good heads up so to speak.

Chin up Bru. You have done everything to your rig almost by yourself which is the best preparation. I expect we will see you at XWC and XI so I can kick your arse with some FORD power.

There is a list of names on the OBC website but it doesn't have vehicle info. Most are GQs, some are GUs, Hilux & Rangies. I will get a list when i arrive and if you are in a spectator group all that info will be available to you. I'll catch you there!!

Yes James, we are almost ready, one more weekend to finish of the packing and we are away.

It's going to be interesteing driving a diesel this time, a new experience in the OBC.

just did a big all nighter down to Brisvegas and back to pick up a tilt bed truck that I bought yesterday. Thanks to the guys down there that got stuff ready for me. I amazed a couple of people when I showed them how to fit 5 x 35inch tires and 6 rims to suit in a hyundai elantra :D . My comp truck is still in pieces and I haven't even run the new engine combo on the dyno to bed it in and tune it yet. I leave up here on monday so I don't have much time left. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute hey
