GQ CLOCK

Post by challenger »

How hard is it to remove the clock for re-soldering? Is it as simple as removing the facia (undo the screws I guess) and unplugging the wiring, or are there any 'tricks-of-the-trade' to know about?

Is it the same with the radio/cassette?

Cheers

unscrew it and have a look, i would imagine its plugged in. Most things are, that way there easy for slave labour to put it together in the factory.

What are you removing it for?

It's very easy to get the clock out and there are no secret tricks.

Just start by undoing the screws on the console, there are a few in plain view on the sides, plus a few up under the face vents (you have to tilt the vents back to see the screws) and a few concealed behind the ash tray.

Then the whole console fascia will pull forward and the clock is held in place by two screws. Its wires can be unplugged.

And when you have done this you will see the simple bracket setup that holds the radio in place... It is a DIN arrangement so you can slide any modern stereo in easily as a replacement.

What is the actual problem you are having with the clock, as mine fades in and out, I can jiggle the wire at the back and it will stay on for about 2 days then slowly fade out to nothing, but it does still keep great time.

It's quite common for them to have no display (intermittently), in my experience they still keep the time correct but I am not sure if this is typical.

Apparently it's fixable with some solder but I just swapped for another.

Find the dry solder joints which crack adn lose connection, and resolder them.

mate just resoldered every joint. I just got a $10 watch from the servo and double sided taped it in place.

When you get the clock out of the dash, remove the cover. You will see a fairly large (compared to the other electronic components) blue capaciter. Resolder the joints between this and the PCB.
Mine has never faded out since doing this.

I asked about the clock not about sticking a bloody watch to the dash, already got one of them on me arm

I soldered mine ages ago, it died again, so have a clock on the phone, radio, and dashpod, so no need for another lol

Yeah, I tried re-soldering mine as well but no success.

Mine fades and does not keep time!

But what the hell, the stereo has a clock.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

You talk of earning respect, yet you come on here basically demanding answers even though bogged gave you the solution (and an alternative aswell). Then you still carried on like a pork chop

And now you are calling people wankers and telling me about earning repect ? Get a life

I agree with the comment. But did Bogged get a thankyou for answering the question ? No. He got a smartarse reply. So why would anyone attempt to "earn respect" from this pork chop ?

And before this gets out of hand with people crying to their mums, you will notice my initial reply has a laughing face ( ). To a normal person this may indicate a joke or a light hearted dig was taking place ;)

Ummm, so is the clock fixed ? BTW I reckon there are about 3 different clocks for GQ's, so maybe one solution does not fix all problems........
