Front wheel bearings 98 r/rvr

Post by leafyhead »

 Mate at work was telling me that the noise he has had in the front is wheel bearings on the way out.He then was told that he has to replace hubs as well as they are one unit at $750 t gst each.
Anyone know of this occurrence and cheaper way to repair it.

You can get the bearing only, very obscure part number that you wont find in the parts catalogue (Microcat etc) Still pricy but a hell of a lot better than a complete hub. Will check number when Im back at work tomorrow (beer o'clock in NZ :D )

I know it to be true.
Jeep is the same and they share Dana axles. So is Explorer apparently
I read somewhere that there are places in US which machine Jeep hubs and fit normal bearings.
I do not know of anyone in Australia.
Another P38 winner.

Huh, I believe that the beariing outer track is machined into the hub. A bearing centre would probably be no good by itself.

Run a bead of arc weld on the race in the hub to shrink it?

No, they use a standard style race. See the pix on the simplerthyme website.
