What's my 60 worth ?

Post by quick60 »

Hey fellas,
I'm thinking it's time to give up the 60 I've had for 16 years now, much loved, highly modified, and very capable. I don't know whether I'd be better off pulling it apart and selling off the parts, or trying to sell it whole ? What do you guys think it's worth complete or in parts? Here's a bit of a short list:

1989 GX 5 speed - 290K, A/C, cloth trim, Recaro drivers seat
2" body lift
steel front & rear bars + side rails/steps
rear wheel carrier
9000lb electric winch
Dual batteries
Lightforce 240 Blitz (x2)
headlight upgrade & covers
Fibreglass wheel arch flares
Safari snorkel
Engine transplanted with a 1992 80 series factory turbo engine (1HDT) which has about 60K on it since a full rebuild.
Safari intercooler. (147Kw - 446Nm@1600)
Walbro pusher pump
3" hi flow exhaust
5 core radiator
Marks crawler gears - 8% high OD, 55% low UD
Air locker f&r (front only just fully rebuilt including locker internals)
front calipers overhauled, new rotors
OME springs & greasable shackles
Bilstein shocks - nearly new
35x11.5 Simex ET's on steel rims (engineer certified)
35x12.5 BFG AT on alloys
Long range tank (165 litres all up)
Milford cargo barrier
drawers and fridge slide in the rear + power outlets
shower
radios
Rola roof racks

There's probably more, and here's a picture.

That is one sweet 60.

I'd probably pay up to 16-17 if it doesn't have rust in it, and is in as gooder condition as it would seem.

That's not saying that's what it's worth.

Nice stock non-turbo diesel 80 without a rebuilt engine! It's all about the security of knowing i'm not going to have $8k worth of dead engine for a good while!

just had a quick look at the redbook
last of the 60 turbo's sell for 7,100-9,900
first off the 80 turbo's sell for 11,900-15,500

a rough guess on parts off mine:
engine 6,500 (reco 60K)
gearbox 1,200 (reco'd 30K ago)
transfer with crawler gears 1,200 (new gears 15K ago)
f&r diffs complete 1,500 (front all new)
springs and shocks 800
that's 11,200 already - and there's heaps left

be a bloody shame to pull it apart though.

you never get back what you put into a vehicle. Modifications in general aren't worth much. The parts though are worth something.

Alright dickhead, get your factory turbo 80, modify if to that level, rebuild the engine and diffs, then tell me how much you've spent - and you've still got pansy coils :finger: I'm just saying it wouldn't be a bad buy, even for mid teens.

Like i said it's not worth that much, but would should be a solid, reliable buy. I realise 16-17 was a bit over the top - i havn't looked at the second hand 60 market in a while, and prices are dropping fast.

I sold my 60 two years ago for $16500 and it wasn't that modified.

I had a 1990 GXL diesel WITH NO TURBO, sitting up on 2 inch springs, 2 inch blocks an 32 inch tyres (hadn't got 35's yet). front & rear bars, rear draw system and coms gear. didn't even have a winch or lockers. Was lucky enough to find a bloke who wanted one in good condition set up ready to go.

I advertsied for 2 months in the trading post until switching to just 4x4 magazine with full color advert, sold in first month of advertising with them. give them ago, it may take a while but good money for a 60 can be got.

good luck

Just try advertising it in a few diff places. There's always someone who'll pay the price you want, ya just gotta find them.....

Now now, we all know toyota's have feelings ;)

I remember seeing a 60 a while ago on ebay with a 30000 reserve.

What would you be happy to see for it? Whether it be wrecked or sold as a whole...

I dunno, I like your original 16-17K, but it would take some time to get that much for it, if at all. I'm just doing a few sums on a replacement, not that a few grand at this end will make much difference, but it all helps. If I was offered 16K for it, I'd probably let it go, but I haven't really decided if i want to sell it yet - I'll probably regret it ? I was going to buy an 80 years ago but couldn't see the value in it considering it wouldn't really be that much better off road, and did the engine swap instead, and I'm kinda thinking the same now with a new one.

Decisions, desicions.
off to search the net to see whats out there...........

ive seen damians truck in the flesh and off road. its neat as a pin inside and straight on the outside and well set up for either touring or hardcore offroad. the custom draw system has been well planned. its not the biggest fan of side slopes but thats irrelevent in comparison when it comes to rocky tracks etc. the engine gets up and boogies at will and not to mention sounds sweet. i believe its quicker than my petrol 80 also.

theres now way you'd get a turbo 80 in the same condition as this 60 for 16-20k. i personally wouldnt by it as im not a fan of the 60 though i recognise it as a very well built unit and thats what i do like.

i say theres a mad 60's fan who wouldnt baulk at paying $16k for it, youve just gotta advertise in the right market to get them.

ps: what you gonna update to mate ?

if you have the time a and patience to pull apart and deal with clowns wasting ya time when selling gear sounds like you would be mad not to wreck it...... or at least pull half the mods off and target a market.....

i did that with my gq... pulled all the young fella gear off and sold a mildly modded wagon perfect for a basic tourer beachrrig for weekends.... targeted the semi retired old boys with some $$$ to spend on a reliable clean old trogen and got great money for truck--- mates couldnt believe it then sold tyres for 1k lift 1k accessories another and ended up very :D and kept boxes and a few bits for the gu......

TARGET YA MARKET- imho---- old boys have $$ to spend for older but clean trucks and love a few creature comforts like camping lights 2 inchlift/ not 6 like i had so i dropped- and a cd player bull bar and spotties and a spit and polish and no rustand u have happy campers with

In all seriousness are you going to sell it?

If I were in the market about $10-$12 with rego and no rust (without seeing it) would be a fare price.

Its a great looking and sounding truck, I'm sure you would find somebody looking for a great weekend truck or tourer. If you went down the track of parting it out do you really wont the hassle? Sell it!!!!

What's a Walbro pusher pump?
