i used hollowbar and solid 42mm od...
both have not bent yet.
im using the superpro bushes. these are tapered at the ends to allow flex in the joint.
i get about 2 years out of em before they flog out.

It's different from the norm and I guess there are arguements about more sides to stretch to bend it. I'm running it and have bent the tie rod already, but I had plenty of traction and was jamming it into a rock pretty hard, I think that was when the output shaft gave up the ghost.
For a daily driver or trail rig I'd just use 8-10mm wall mild steel or bright mild steel with either patrol bushes or bollocks type joints. That way you won't have the harshness of heims and they'll probably last a while longer.
