new rings and liners?

Post by Josh n Kat »

got a td42 with 350k on it running a turbo. before i put it in my car i'm gonna pull the head off it and get it checked over but what about piston rings and big end bearings and possibly liners? 350 aint really that much for a diesel motor is it?
whats most other people done?

The motor is probably rooted. I will buy it off you.

Liners new from Nissan $183 each standard size. Pistons standard size $60 each. Liners can be very tough to remove, but new ones drop straight in. I had a tool made up to remove them. Ring set $380 i think

P.S at that Km's main/small end bearing wear might be a problem. When i did my rebuild, bores had negligible wear--bearings were just starting to show metal@550,000km's

yeah the price doesn't seem too bad for liners and pistons.

but the way some people are putting it, 350k aint a whole heap of k's for one of these motors. i just wanna get the motor in the car without spending bucketloads of money

it all depends on the history of the engine. 100k klms maybe a shit load, 550k klms on another may barely show any wear
