Who's put a V8 in a Bundy?

Post by sudso »

Just wondering what issues come up by puttin a V8 with auto in a Bundera, you know, engine cooling, exhaust routing, front suspension, tailshafts, uncontrollable wheelstands etc etc.

im planning on doing a V8 conversion next year, but still not sure which engine im going to use, i was firstly planning on using a 350 short block but there isnt heaps of room in a bundy. after seeing the overkill vitara with a 3.5 V8 im thinking of using that for my new poower plant.

Yeah sounds nice. I have a 350 (carbed) with an auto on it I want to put in.
Haven't done any measurements yet but it looks like the total length might mean shorter rear tailshaft, longer front and maybe trans crossmember mods.

I got it with no motor and it has the petrol g/box so I dont want to use that.
Want to keep it auto though, it's a TH350 trans.

No there's not heaps of room but I reckon they are plenty big enough for a small block. I'm keeping the engine pretty much stock and gassing it. Just dont know whether to straight gas it or duel fuel. Dont really want an LPG tank behind the back seat but that means getting rid of the petrol tank, I cant see where else an LPG tank will fit.

3.5? that would be a Rover engine?

yea 3.5 rover engine like the one that was used in the overkill vitara, i dont know if ill turbo it or not, prob not to start with and then see how it goes!!
i also think i could get a 3.5 rover V8 cheaper than a 350 chev.
im still not sure which box to put behind it as i dont think the bundera box will hold it ??

Everyone in the know seems to rate the diesel g/box that came out in the bundy's as a fair choice if you already have one. They are stronger than the petrol g/box's although nuthings indestructible.
3.5's r efi right? Not interested in the usual Commo V6? Mates got one with auto in his older Navara which goes pretty hard, that would be my choice if I didnt already have the 350.
Yeah I've had the 350 for a few years now just sitting there doing nothing so I thout I'd put it to good use.

not sure which model ill be using but as i said before i wont be able to do anything to my car till next year so i might change my mind between now and then!!
i have thaught about the V6 and i havent ruled it out, but i am planning on building a comp truck so i was thinking that having the V8 might help but i may go the V6 as it will also be my daily driver untill i can afford a cheap road car!!
as for g/box i have the 22R so i have the petrol box not sure which one it is but if it will stay together when i flog the shit out of it then ill keep it :D
yea i was real keen on the 350 but i wont be able to afford one as i need to budget for the other mods aswell and try and get sponsers!! ;)

yea ive had a post in the rover section about engines and i was advised that the 3.9 EFI V8 (rover) should be good also i will prob be goin to auto as it wil be better for rock crawling and i was told the auto box for the 3.9 (ZF 4HP22) should be used so that wat im leaning towards.
i spose i can fix up the bundy box and sell it !!

Sudso,

don't forget the 1UZFE (i think thats it) or more commonly known as the Lexus V8 I think not 100% sure, venom racing up in QLD make a bellhousing to mate the R151 to the donk if you get a front cut cheap enough, IMHO it would be the pick of the bunch and there wouldn't be too many of them around (in a bundy that is)

anyway worth a thought
:)
Cheers

You are nearly there :)

You can also get a bellhousing from dellow to mate the 1UZFE to R51* or W/G5* boxes, although the quality is usually a little lacking.
